Math Made Meaningful
Funded Sep 29, 2022Thank you for helping me keep my students engaged with math work! Having a color printer allows me to print in color for my students to help them differentiate between different images (that all look similar when printed in black and white).
In one of the images students were creating pizzas with a variety of toppings to then write ratios comparing two of the toppings or one of the toppings to total toppings. It allows them to also use that and see how they can find equivalent ratios by either doubling up on more toppings or taking some away in equal groups. Being able to engage in a hands on activity in color has kept my students engaged in the math work and has helped with understanding the topic.
In the second photo students were learning how to compare two of the same item but in different amounts to determine the unit price. We went on a scavenger hunt trip to target where students had to find the item based on the image on their sheet and then write down prices for each and determine which is the better buy.
Students also love seeing their math puzzle do now's in color. The magic of teaching is that they're actually learning about variables in equations with images. We dive deeper into this topic later in the school year.
Having a printer in the classroom has allowed me to print in color making math more fun and engaging, it has allowed me to print any make-up work for my students, and early finisher work for students as well. Due to your generosity, my students now have the tools they need to be successful.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Pecak
