Assortment of School Supplies
Funded Sep 2, 2023I was coming into a new classroom this year with no supplies and my students financially could not afford to provide materials.
Your donation helped to improve the quality of instruction. The students had highlighters to use while reading to mark important information. They had colored pencils for color coding the parts of a plant or the five regions of Virginia. They had scissors and glue for making a model of the life cycle of a butterfly. They used the expo markers and whiteboards to write new words or solve addition and subtraction problems.
We know that students learn in a variety of different ways beyond auditory. With the materials that were purchased with your donation, I was able to reach so many of my students who learn best when they are moving or who need the visuals.”

Funded Nov 29, 2023With the donation of snacks and toys for the prize bin, I saw a positive change in my students behavior. I made a big show of opening all of the new items and placing them in the bins. They were very driven to earn tickets in order to purchase snacks, candy, and fidgets. There were a few times where the students would be rewarded with a free prize or snack for making great choices when they easily could have made the wrong choice or followed the crowd. The tickets were given a boost in value that was needed to make it through to the end of the year.”

Funded Aug 16, 2023My students are flocking to the reading nook daily! I never could have imagined how much classroom comradery the reading nook would bring to my students. There are times where 10 students are sitting on pillows, the couch, the fuzzy rug, or cushions enjoying one of the many chapter books or scholastic readers that were received because of your generosity.
They particularly seem to love the food group books. I see many students reading the Bad Seed or the Cool Bean. I even read Smart Cookie allowed to the entire class at the beginning of the year and we had a heartfelt conversation about students having differing strengths and even how some students need different things to succeed since we have the Autistic Inclusion Classroom.
I am looking forward to seeing how your generosity and the reading nook continues to foster their love of reading as the year progresses.”

Funded Jan 7, 2023We are very appreciative of your donation to our class. It has been amazing to watch my students bond while utilizing the recess equipment. My students and I particularly enjoy playing Knock Out with the basketballs or kicking the soccer ball around during outdoor recess. When the weather traps us inside, I enjoy teaching them to play new games, such as stress, golf, trash, or chicken foot.
My students were overjoyed to see the recess equipment and have even been enjoying being the one to carry the bag full of equipment to and from recess. There is something for everyone from hop scotch to basketball or card games to Connect 4.
I would love to continue to add to our collection of games moving forward, probably a few more board games. I also plan to get more outdoor recess equipment, so that there can be smaller groups to each piece of equipment.”

Flexible Seating
Funded Sep 23, 2022My students have enjoyed using all of the different seating options. The standing desk is most frequently used as a charging station for students who need to work on their chromebooks but need to be plugged in to an outlet. I also have students who sometimes need space from their peers to concetrate and they will move to the standing desk because it is more secluded. My students who are a little hyper active will also use the standing desks, so they can move around and not distract their peers because it is positioned at the back of the room. The wobble seats and kick bands have also been a game changer for my students who feel the need to move. It has limited the amount my students get up out of their seats during lessons. The floor cushions have not only been great for independent work, so students can spread out around the room but also for when we need to split classes and we don't have enough desks for the additional students. They will grab a cushion and a clipboard and an open spot on the floor. The bean bags have been the most popular addition to our class and have become a great incentive for students.
When my students were first shown the new seating options, they were very excited and were already asking when they could start utlizing them. I don't believe my class has gone a day without someone using one of the flexible seating options, especially during reading stations and independent work. Students from other classes who visit my room are also excited to use the different seating options. It has made for a more pleasant classroom setting because everyone has access the ability to sit (or stand) in a spot that they are most comfortable and where they aren't a distruption to the class.
The items have been so popular that I would like to expand my reading area by adding more beacn bag chairs and add additional wobble seats to my inventory. I am also considering a reading bench for students who would like to read together.”
