Help Me Give my Students a Gaming Club!
Funded Jan 3, 2024I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation to our gaming club through DonorsChoose. Your contribution of a Nintendo Switch, accompanied by the games Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros, has made a profound difference in the lives of our students.
Since the arrival of the Nintendo Switch, I have witnessed a remarkable transformation within our gaming club. The inclusive and collaborative nature of games like Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros has brought our students together in ways that I had not anticipated. Regardless of their background or interests, students are bonding over friendly competitions and cooperative gameplay, fostering a sense of unity and belonging within our school community.
Moreover, the educational benefits of gaming have been abundantly clear. Through gameplay, our students are honing their problem-solving abilities, strategic thinking, and communication skills. They are learning to work as a team, make quick decisions, and demonstrate good sportsmanship—a testament to the valuable learning opportunities that gaming can provide when used in a structured and supervised environment.
Beyond academics, the Nintendo Switch has provided our students with a much-needed outlet for relaxation and stress relief. In the midst of their busy schedules, the gaming club offers them a chance to unwind, recharge, and connect with their peers in a positive and enjoyable way.
Your generosity has not only enhanced the educational experience of our students but has also brought joy and camaraderie to our entire school community. I am deeply grateful for your support and belief in the power of education. Your donation will continue to inspire and uplift our students for years to come.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Gonzalez

Funded Nov 30, 2022The technology I have received from Donors Choose has helped my classroom tremendously. After 2020, school's have taken a more technology based path with their curriculum. Currently, in my school District, we have been using programs such as Schoology, Nearpod, Quiziz, Kahoot, iCivics, and many more to engage students in a memorable lesson. Schoology is our main platform where my students can see their grades, access assignments, homework, discussions, and outside links that I choose to include. This requires students to use our school laptops or to bring their own. Some students may not have access to a laptop or tablet at home and my classroom does not have enough for all of my students to use. This is where the tablet I received from Donors Choose helps. I use it for online class assignments and a student who does not have a laptop or tablet may need. I also use it for students who need visual accommodations.
Some of the content on Schoology includes videos or engaging educational games like the ones on Nearpod where students need to answer questions correctly so their avatar can climb the hill and win. These two activities require headphones because it is self-paced and students need to listen to the video to understand what is being taught. Having laptops or tablets with high volume is distracting to students. Students in my class are asked to bring their own headphones for this purpose but working at a Title One school means that we work with students of different social economical backgrounds. The headphones I received from Donors Choose has helped my students who cannot afford to bring headphones and we are able to use fun and engaging programs without distractions.”
