  • Building Sculptures Through Play in Art Class

    Funded Apr 12, 2023

Thank you for your support of our art classroom. We are grateful for your thoughtful gift. We are excited to further explore sculpture and build our art-making skills together. Your support helps me to be a better educator and gives my students more exploratory options for learning. All the best to you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Curtis

  • Creativity and Social Emotional Learning Through Painting.

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

My students were so excited to paint; you've made their year.

This year, with the materials you generously donated, students worked on a painting unit with lessons adapted from the Museum of Modern Art education program for students with special needs. We learned about the artists Alma Thomas, Mark Bradford, Amanda Williams, and Beatriz Milhazes. We explored the formalities of painting such as color blending, mark-making, texture, and space, and also memory, place, and emotion. Each work the students made was unique, and we thank you also for helping our middle school students explore their sense of self and develop personal agency through art making.

Students additionally used the tempera paints for printmaking and will be using them in forthcoming sculpture lessons. As a teacher, I could not have done it without you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Curtis
