Three Year Olds and a Pot of Gold

Funded Sep 29, 2022

My students and I want to thank you for playing a major role in their learning and development. They were so excited to see the new materials. They helped me unbox the items and I could just hear and see the excitement. Hearing "WOW" and "Oh MY GOD" with each item that came out put a smile on my face. They got a kick out of the liquid motion timer. They sat there all day flipping it just to watch the colored liquid go down to the other side. They spoke about the colors, the bubbles they saw and how slowly it was moving. The peg boards were also a favorite. I didn't show them how to use it. I wanted to see what they would do with the pegs without my assistance. Initially they built "swords" and "buildings" with the pegs. Then, one child noticed there were numbers on the boards and began putting the corresponding number of pegs in. Soon after, the rest of the students followed and a whole conversation about numbers and ages ensued. It was amazing. It got to a point where I was jealous of all the interesting manipulatives they got to explore. Receiving those tools for learning was their pot of gold. My pot of gold was watching them learn and have fun with those items”

With gratitude,

Ms. Chisholm
