Small Group Stools
Funded Nov 29, 2022When this project was fully funded, I told my students about my hopes for new seating choices and the generosity of those in and outside of our community to bring this project to fruition. Many were excited, but I don't know that they really grasped it until the boxes were delivered to the classroom. Every student was so excited to try the wobble seats, rockers, and sit on the stools!
Those first few days it was a whirlwind of "can I use a cushion next!?" and "I want a turn on the rocker!" As every student got a chance to try out our new flexible seating, it's true purpose shown through. Every morning, several students ask to grab a "cushion" or sit on a stool at their desk. When they are done, they happily pass them on to another to use.
Disruptive behaviors have decreased, as students have more choices of places to sit while also having sensory seating options right at their desk. Small group instruction is more effective, and with less arguing. There are enough stools for groupwork at our reading aide table, with a few leftover for our standing group table. These students now have the option to sit on a stool or stand during each of their rotations.
It's hard to truly express the difference these seating options have made in my classroom environment. I am so grateful that you were willing to help make this change.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Gibson
