A Soft Seat

My students love the carpet in the classroom. As we brought it up to the room students were asking if we were going to roll it out and some even started sweeping (which was surprising because cleaning up the room is not something most of them enjoy). The first thing students said as they sat on it was that it was soft a couple even commented about taking a nap on there.

The students are using the carpet mostly during our whole group lessons. We all gather on the carpet and discuss the lesson. Students love asking to work on the carpet during independent work time and especially during independent reading. It also helps provide more space for group works, groups are able to spread out a lot more with the carpet as an additional option.

My students really enjoy the flexible seating and the option to move around the room. We are currently working in pods with their desk and sometimes they just need a break from their pods. Instead of walking out of the room or getting worked up students now ask if they can go work on the carpet which is a big step for a lot of them. As our class size keeps increasing and the warmer weather rolls in the next steps in our class room is going to be looking at seats for each desk. Quite a few students complain about how the chairs at their desk are uncomfortable and we have 1 wobble stool and a couple cushions. Getting more stools in our classroom circulation would be our classes next step in this project.”
