Funding Pianos for Music Club
Funded Apr 23, 2025Thank you for helping support music club's music journey! My students are already excited and are now planning a concert using the pianos and our other instruments. Your support is helping give kids a safe space to explore and learn. We've been short a piano and students have felt the missing piece of our ensemble. Thanks to your support, they can really showcase their creativity!”

Library Expansion
Funded Sep 8, 2022In my class, I have instituted a silent reading period. At the beginning of class each day, students grab their books and read their books for about 15 minutes. After, they write a small post-it annotation that gives an idea of what they are reading and gets them geared up for a literary analysis. I work with students and recommend to them books I'd think they'd like but ultimately leave the choice for students. These periods have served to help me build relationships with students and just have conversations about the books they are reading.
These texts are designed to do a few different things. First and foremost I am trying to help build reading stamina in my students through using texts that are interest based and highly engaging. Secondly, I want to foster in my students a love for reading. I know this can only ever happen when students are interested in what they are reading. Students are currently reading more of the material they are interested in from Jane Austen's Emma to Alex Michaelideas' The Silent Patient. Students read a little of each genre and slowly expand their repertoire.
The texts have begun to get students talking about their books, often joking about the characters and their motivation. The more students read about their interests and see themselves in the literature the read, or in some cases see other lives. The conversations, without them even knowing have steered towards literary analysis. It has slowly begun the spiral of students jumping down the literary rabbit hole.”
