My students love the books and the headbands. It gave my classroom a sense of community when everyone was wearing the red heart headbands. This let my class feel as though they are a family unit. The books were also a hit. One of my students finished their work early so they could go grab a Valentine's Day book to read. With these stories we are able to do more read aloud's in the classroom when time allows.
It reminded my kids that Valentine's Day can be celebrated in many different ways. Yes loud parties are one way. But you can also celebrate by reading Holiday books and being cozy. Thanks to these specific stories we had a more inclusive day.”

Thanks so much for helping to fund my classroom. Im trying so hard to implement a classroom library with books that match their personalities. I am so thrilled to have more books to expose these kids too. Recess at Zero below was a hit when I was in school. Thanks!”

It can be difficult to teach on heavy subjects like racism. Particularly in a classroom of little students. With literature and textbooks that are relevant for their age range this task is much more achievable. Two students did a little bit extra after receiving the Martin Luther King books to show that they understood the overall dream is of kindness and peace. Many students were surprised at how recently Martin Luther King was alive. We discussed how some students had grandparents that were born and experienced a life in a very different time period (more racism).”

Today we read Lola Quiera el Gato. It was my first time attempting to read a book in Spanish. My students found it comical that I struggled reading and mentioned how slow I was while reading the story. Luckily, a supportive staff member was willing to come into the classroom that spoke Spanish and read to the class. As a class we discussed how the staff member was able to read with comprehension and speed in another language. We discussed how if you are learning a new language it can be very difficult (how it was difficult for Seybert to read) But if you already know a new language reading in a different language will come naturally.
My hope is that the two read aloud's reinforced the strengths of being bilingual. As well, as the struggle of learning a new language.”

This project was one of the most hands on experiences I have had with my students. The students spent one day organizing books according to genre; fantasy, fairytale, informational and folktale. We than went to the kindergarten class with a questionnaire form. The second graders asked the kindergarten class different questions to determine which book genre would be the best fit. The second graders than chose books based on their answers and wrapped these gifts. Two of the second graders asked the kindergarten teacher how many students were in her class. This ensured we had enough for all the students.
I also made sure that each of my students got their own story based on their interest. My kids are so excited to see which book I chose for them. They keep going near their present wanting to open it.
The other books are on our bookshelf. The filipeno book was a hit because the students saw their culture in the classroom. Our classroom is lined with the Pigeon stories.”

I received snacks to provide to students with your donations. My students got a snack or a phone call once they earned ten stars for great behavior.
My students are so excited to earn a star. They earn one for showing great behavior. This reminds the other students to behave in a similar manner. If I give direct praise for behavior other students will start also showing the same behavior. With your donation I am able to give my students a tier one support.
The students families was so thankful for the positivity. In conferences he commented on how proud he was of his child. I had another family member who typically does not attend parent teacher conferences talk to me about his child's academics over the phone because he wanted to thank me for using the ten stars to motivate his child.”
The students were thrilled to see the crayons, colored pencils and paper. We used it to make posters for staff. Many students mentioned different teachers that have made a large impact in their lives throughout their education path. My students reminded me when I got back into teaching with one of their personal projects they made me. They created cards and a poster to celebrate my Ironman. Through doing this surprise project most of them later stated they want to do their own triathlon. We also ended up using it to advertise for bike to school day May 8th. Students love to incorporate art into their everyday life and these projects helped them build a stronger sense of community.”

The students were so excited to receive the items. Their eyes lit up when they got to unwrap each item within the box. It also has made motivation much easier.
The football helps get the students in line. They don't want to miss out on getting to play. Only the students in line get to do football with their teacher. This has increased speed of getting students in line because they all want to play. We also use it to take brain breaks or silent football.
The snacks give the students a goal to work towards. Every time they earn ten stars they get a snack.”

The students love the new rug. It is this beautiful light blue color. It is very comfortable allowing the students to have the desire to come to the floor as a place to listen to instruction. We are calling it the quiet carpet as a way for them to remember that when I am teaching in front of the class their voice is off.
Our headphones were a huge hit. Students were so excited to share how to use bluetooth to make the headphones work. These headphones will be used as a reward for five different students that are absolutely crushing the classroom expectations.
Thank you for these two wonderful items.”
