WES Students Soaring With Pride
Funded May 8, 2024Thank you for your generous donation. Due to the materials donated and our Cricut coming in at the tail-end of the school year, we were able to share our school logo keychains/backpack pulls with our students who were attending summer school, rather than our grade 6 students.
The summer school students were excited to receive the keychain/backpack pulls with school colors and our school mascot. Our Parent and Community Engagement Team is truly grateful for your donation. Being a part of our school community which is the home of the soaring eagles, we hope that students will continuously apply our vision: "We empower our students to soar as lifelong learners and contributing members of society."
Our next step is to apply for donations to purchase more of the smart vinyl in our school colors. We plan to continue to create more school logo items for our students to build school pride. Our next steps also include creating a school logo design on Canva to cover the small notebooks that were donated.”

Funded Sep 12, 2023The materials that funded this project were used for the visiting guests folders, their handouts, and rubrics. The rubrics were used to provide feedback to students in the different classrooms. This project was implemented in every classroom in our school. The project had an impact from preschool to grade 6. Students were so excited to share their PBL projects to their guests on May 10. Some students memorized their lines and other were able to present through a slideshow.
Feedback was collected from each visitor and the data from the rubrics are currently being compiled. So far, the majority of feedback has been positive and our guests were very impressed with what the students shared and learned, and the process that they went through during their project. Student engagement greatly increased when students shared what they learned to others outside of their classroom. Our next phase in the Celebration of Learning implementation process is to share with our parents next school year where we will adjust the feedback form for our English Learner parents in different languages. Thank you for your donation! This event was a success!”

Funded Feb 16, 2024Your donation has helped to teach our Tier 2 students how to become responsible readers. Students had a choice from the donated incentives each time that they returned their books and word cards.
Our students get excited and look forward to receiving the incentives as they learn the core value of "Responsibility" as they practice being responsible for their learning materials. Before receiving the donation, 77% of our Tier 2 support students were returning their books. After the donation, we now have 93% of our Tier 2 students returning their books. We will be continuing this practice so that we will have enough books for next year's new incoming students for our Tier 2 support program. Thank you for your generous donation.”

Funded Dec 31, 2023The Wellness Resources donated were very useful for our classroom teachers, staff, and students. Teachers, staff, and some students participated in different sessions where they learned SEL strategies to improve well-being.
The participants were able to build relationships with each other, network with community members, and learn new strategies to improve wellbeing. They were able to learn from sessions such as: 1) cooking demos from our partnering Waipahu high school students from the culinary department, 2) make chocolate covered strawberries from a local business, 3) learn relaxation through yoga, 4) learn how to play pickle ball, 5) learn bon dance, 6) view a cooking demo from our cafeteria manager, & 7) learn watercolor painting techniques, 8) go bowling, and 9) karaoke.
The strategies learned have positive effects on multiple levels. First, it improves wellbeing which will carry over to their classrooms. Next, staff members are able to network with their colleagues and the community. Last, they will transfer these strategies over to students. Due to the overall 100% positive response in our post survey, we will continue to provide Wellness Sessions for our staff next year. Thank you for your generous donation which helped to make this conference a success!”

Teacher Wellness Conference - #2
Funded Sep 27, 2023Thank you for the generous donation for our first Wellness Conference. The participants were excited to gain new knowledge and were excited to receive the materials.
Since we are a large school, staff members were able to meet other teachers from different grade levels, were able to gain knowledge on wellbeing, and stated next steps and goals. The staff and some students attended sessions that supported well-being and Social Emotional Learning. We received positive comments on how the classes were helpful to improving well-being. Teachers also shared their next steps that they will be teaching their own children and their classroom students what they learned.
Since the next steps involve transference over to our students, the wellbeing and SEL benefits will be long lasting for our staff and students.”

Funded Aug 30, 2022Thank you for your donation of the domino sets. Students along with teacher and parent support were able to engage in activities using the STEM Plan that was created. Students collaborated to create a Rube Goldberg machine that successfully demonstrated creativity, collaboration, problem solving, cooperation, and effective communication skills that innovative learners display.
When students learned that they would be working with the domino sets, they were very excited. In addition to various domino course designs, they incorporated the use of simple machines. Each time, when the students worked with the sets, they designed new domino courses. They also had to learn to collaborate and piece together different sections of the course during the design process. The process taught the students about patience, as occasionally, the dominoes would fall prior to completing the design set up.
Lastly, students were able to create a video explaining the problem solving process which developed effective communication skills. The STEM teacher and I were able to rate the student projects against a 21st Century Skills Rubric. The students received a school book fair certificate as a thank you for their participation. We hope that these types of creative STEM projects will continue to be done throughout the school in the future.”

Funded Nov 1, 2022The resources provided helped our staff and students to implement our school's SEL curriculum called Choose Love. It also supported students being able to work together with their families. The Choose Love curriculum covers 4 pillars of Social Emotional Learning: Courage, Gratitude, Forgiveness, and Compassion in Action.
The grade level teachers and students were excited to be able to have resources to implement their Choose Love Family Engagement Project. Our entire school implements Family Engagement Projects that are connected to our Academic Standards, General Learner Outcomes, and Social Emotional Learning. The photos shown for this particular project, shows our grade 3 students (about 120 students) and how they worked with their families on creating a heart wreath. In each heart, students and families generated what actions that they could take to practice the pillars of Courage, Gratitude, Forgiveness, and Compassion in Action.
Our entire school (K-6) plans to continue to implement Family Engagement Projects next school year knowing that family engagement plays a crucial role in student achievement and Social Emotional Well-being.”

Funded Sep 5, 2022The new resources that were donated helped to engage our staff in improving their wellbeing. On Feb. 22, we were able to put together a Wellbeing Conference for the entire school staff of 100+. Our keynote speaker touched upon topics and shared effective strategies that educators can relate to such as time stress and mental fatigue.
We were able to offer both an Academic Conference to improve student achievement as well as offer a Wellness Conference. The best part of the conference was that we could offer 16 different sessions where our staff could learn about new pastimes, network with presenters and colleagues, and learn how to improve wellbeing. Through survey results, 100% felt that they had a positive experience.
The goal of the Academic & Wellbeing Conference was to promote student success and staff wellbeing. Being an educator is an intensive job and self-care is important. By practicing self care, it will help us to to thrive as educators. We plan to continue to do this yearly based on the positive feedback we received from our staff.”
