On Wednesdays, We Read!: A Classroom Library Project

As a result of your generosity our Reading Wednesdays have become a beloved routine to help break up the many academic demands of our students. We have heard from multiple students that they see it as a moment of self-care where they can indulge in their favorite stories/genres without judgement. With your contributions we have been able to cultivate an initial collection of stories that reflect the actual population of our students to help them feel represented and see that they have a valuable place in our world and within highly regarded literature.

Our inclusion class has such a large range of abilities and interests. Students that had originally felt that there were no books that could meet them where they are at academically while also catering to their age-level interests, have come to understand that there are so many options for styles of book out there that can help them identify as "readers."

We plan to continue building our classroom library and carrying on our Reading Wednesday tradition with the hopes of reinvigorating all students' positive associations with reading for pleasure.”
