Funded Sep 19, 2022Thank you so much for your generous donations! The Kindergarten and First grade students were overjoyed to be the first students to use our Colors of The World Markers. We recently completed a lesson on self portraits, which is how I introduced these new materials to them. I told them that we are fortunate enough to have people supporting our classroom from outside the community!
My students gasped when the big class pack box opened to reveal all the different skin tones. They absolutely could not wait to dig in and pick out the skin color that looked just like themselves! They held up markers to their skin with excitement, and a few students even went to show their friends saying, "Look! This one looks like me!"
Although only the Kindergarten and First Grade classes have used these materials so far, every grade has had a little show-and-tell with the markers. I explained the process I went through to fund this project, and how fortunate we are to have donors supporting our classroom. With your help I was able to see my students eyes light up when they saw that they could accurately represent themselves. They have been told many times that they should all feel comfortable and heard in the art room, and I think this generous donation was a step in the right direction for building relationships and trust with my first year classes.
On behalf of the Kingsley Comets and myself, thank you so much for your donation. Everyday, every time a marker cap opens and snaps closed, we are grateful for your support and generosity.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Ramirez
