  • Headphones for First Grade

    Funded Sep 21, 2024

I cannot thank you enough for your generous donation that allowed my class to have a class set of headphones. The headphones have enabled my students to work independently on our iPads, which has helped create a more effective learning environment. I have been able to implement small group instruction that helps me best meet the diverse needs of my students. While I work with one small group of students, other students are enable to engage in an app that provides instruction and extra practice in what they need. Thanks to the headphones each student is able to concentrate on the lesson on their own iPad so the other groups can focus on the work they're doing individually or with me. Students have also been able to use the headphones to read or listen to books on their iPads, which has been a great resource for those who don't have many books at home. My students and I are so grateful for your generosity.”

  • Reading Intervention Tools for First Grade

    Funded Apr 6, 2023

Thank you so much for contributing to this project! With the materials I was able to put together reading intervention binders for my students to use during our small group time.

The binders have a variety of different skill practice, so it's been helpful to be able to target the needs of the diverse learners in my classroom. Thanks to your donation, each student in the small group is able to use their own binder during our time together, whereas previously students were needing to share or take turns with the binders. They were thrilled to learn they each got their own now! The binders have also been so helpful for me, as I now have a variety of skills all in one place rather than needing to search on the internet to find the skill needed for each group to practice each day.

Thank you again for your support!”

  • Counting Collections

    Funded May 19, 2023

Thank you so much for your contribution to my class's project! My students were so excited by the new items and toys to count. Before this project they were mostly just counting office supplies that I had in the classroom like paper clips, pens, and binder clips. While they were able to practice their counting using those items, they definitely were not the most engaging or motivating objects to count. With the new items and toys they're so excited to choose their counting collection each week and think of ways to organize their counting.

Counting collections are an important part of our first grade math routine. This weekly activity gives students the opportunity to strengthen their number sense by practicing 1:1 correspondence and the counting sequence. It also gives students the chance to work with a partner and share their thinking, which gives them the opportunity to work cooperatively and see the collection in a different way.

Thank you so much for helping to bring these vital tools into my classroom!”

  • Art Materials for First Grade

    Funded Dec 31, 2022

Thank you so much for your donation to my classroom. My students were SO excited that they each got to use their own set of brand new watercolors rather than sharing the previously used ones I had at the beginning of the year. We were able to use the watercolors for several projects in the second half of the year, and the work on display added wonderful brightness and color to our classroom. My students were also so excited to use the "Colors of the World" crayons and colored pencils. If I ever forgot to put them out when we were drawing people they were sure to remind me, and they loved holding up the various colors next to their skin until they found the one they thought was just right. My students and I are so grateful for your generosity and support!”

  • STEM Activities for "Brain Bins"

    Funded Dec 27, 2022

Thank you so much for donating to our Donors Choose project! My students were so excited to use the new materials and have the chance to build and create together.

So far, students have had the opportunity to use the new STEM materials during what we call "Ketchup and Relish Time." During this time students who are caught up on their work (and therefore don't need to "ketchup") can RELISH and relax by doing "Brain Bin" activities or looking at books. The STEM activities you helped us purchase for more "Brain Bins" are great for helping my students think creatively and analytically and are an important way for them to practice sharing and working collaboratively with their classmates.

During these last several weeks of school my students will have the chance to explore the activities and materials they haven't yet had a chance with so that all students can end first grade with some creative and critical thinking. We are so grateful for your generosity in making this possible!”

  • Flexible Seating for First Grade

    Funded Sep 21, 2022

My students have been so excited to use our new flexible seating options! Each table has options of different kinds of seats, and students have been able to rotate through each option to see what they like best. In fact, they've been such a hit that I'm going to create another project to get more! The clipboards have also been a big hit. Students enjoy using them to work comfortably on our class rug or when they're sitting at a bouncy seat and the table isn't quite at the right height. While my students love their different seating options, I've really appreciated having the extra seating because it's also freed up seats to keep at our small group table all the time rather than needing to move seats back and forth to student spots and the small group table. Thank you again for your generosity and support!”

    With gratitude,

  • Headphones for First Grade

    Funded Aug 27, 2022

I cannot thank you enough for your generous donation that allowed my class to have a class set of headphones and storage for them. Students have also been able to use the headphones to read or listen to books on their iPads, which has been a great resource for those who don't have many books at home. Lastly, while it seems like a minor thing, having the shoe organizer to store the headphones makes taking them out and putting them away convenient and quick and helps keep our classroom clean and organized. My students and I are so grateful for your generosity.”
