Dragons Soar Towards Top-Notch Attendance!
Funded Nov 14, 2023Students were highlighted each week for having Perfect Attendance! It became a friendly competition between classes to see how many students would come to school each week. All classes wanted an opportunity to hear their name on the intercom and receive a certificate to be placed outside their classroom. Classes were also listed on the main bulletin board near the office.
Winning classes were surprised each week with a bag full of goodies for each student. Students encouraged each other to come to class each day. Teachers also wanted their honor of having Top Notch Attendance. This was a perfect incentive to get students to come to school. Everyone like snacks that they can eat during the school day.
Thank you for donating to this project for our students.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Townsend Press and one other donor.Perfect Pearls Can Be Hidden Figures, Too!
Funded Feb 6, 2023The Perfect Pearls had an amazing semester researching and meeting Hidden Figures who are native Memphians. They read Hidden Figures and discussed the book during each session. It was great to hear their feedback and questions regarding how women were regarded during those times. The young ladies discovered you must have a goal and take steps to achieve the goals you set for yourself.
The young ladies who were apart of this Etiquette and Mentoring Club each received a book to keep for their contribution. They also wrote their own book, chronicling their experiences in this club as a future Hidden Figure. The Perfect Pearls also had a chance to meet to Memphis Hidden Figures; the first female African American Clerk of Courts for SW Tennessee and the first female African American Postmaster General in Nashville, TN and Louisville, KY.
Thank you for helping to expose these young ladies to their endless possibilities.”

Dragons Soaring through a Vocabulary Parade!
Funded Sep 19, 2022Thank you, thank you, thank you! Your generosity allowed each teacher in our building to receive the book, Miss Alaineus: A Vocabulary Disaster. This is the first time our school has done a school-wide project based on a book. Staff buy-in made this event more special than we could have ever imagined. We are looking forward to this parade for years to come.
At our school, we serve our neighborhood and Optional (honors) students. This book allowed all of our students to dive deeper into new words they were not familiar with, as well as review words they already knew. As teachers read the book, they also challenged students to think and research words that were not in the book. The students proved they were vocabulary scholars. The excitement on their faces was priceless!
During the parade, the students were so eager to show off their costumes that symbolized their word. As students and teachers paraded down the halls, we saw everyone reading the words and definitions. Some were guessing what the word was based on the costume. Overall, it was a magnificent day of learning for all!”

We are iReady for iPad Learning!
Funded Nov 19, 2014My students were so excited to receive the iPad mini and the iGuy case. One of them said, "We have another iPad mini to do our school work on." They were so thrilled to open the boxes and take the items out. The smiles on their faces tell it all.
This iPad mini will allow more of my students to use technology at one given time. I have a few desktop computers and another iPad mini. When I need to get evidence and data for meetings, the students are able to use the iPad mini for this reason. The iGuy allows the iPad mini to stay intact. It is a great cover that cushions the falls that may happen by accident.
This wonderful resource also enables students who are a little timid to work in private. The class computers are all together. A few students enjoy privacy as they work on different programs. If they get something wrong, or are having trouble, they prefer to receive help and feedback away from the other students. The iPad mini is mobile and is able to be utilized all over the classroom.
I am so happy you contributed to this great project. You are allowing my present students and future students to benefit from this great resource. Your giving was not done in vain. On behalf of my students in Happy Hopper Land, we say, THANKS!”

Mrs. Helton Johnson
Happy Hoppers Say, "I-Lead Because We Are I-Ready."
Funded Aug 31, 2014I told the students we had received a gift for our classroom. They had huge smiles on their faces as they opened the boxes. The Happy Hoppers were so excited to receive the iPad Mini. They love the child-friendly case it is in as well. The Happy Hoppers wanted to know who gave them the gift. I told them there were some great people who believed in our class and wanted us to learn all we could this school year.
The Happy Hoppers are able to use the iPad mini to work on initiatives the district has mandated us to use. One program is iStation. This program acts as an enrichment for several of my students and remediation for others who needs additional practice with skills. The iPad mini allows the students to work in different areas of the room where they are able to focus on the task at hand. The iGuy case will stand on the table or the floor. It also has handles that the students are able to grip and move freely.
With multiple students being able to access the programs, I have seen enormous growth in their academic achievement. It brings the students success that they embrace throughout our classroom. Not only do they believe in themselves, but they believe in each other. Academic growth and achievement is extremely important in our class. We believe, therefore we achieve. Again, we thank you for your unselfish gift toward our class.”

Mrs. Helton Johnson
Happy Hoppers are Hopping Towards Common Core!
Funded Apr 24, 2013I am so happy that you decided to donate to my project. My students were so excited to open the packages and see what was in them. Once we open the packages, they yelled, "Hooray, more books!" They didn't know what to think of the math games. I told them it would help them become Super Math Scholars.
The resources are being used in small group settings. I am able to pin-point areas of need and reinforcement. The students are having fun, so they do not realize they are learning. The reading library allows the students to read individually. Therefore it sparks their interest in different genres of study.
Common Core has taken education on a roller coaster ride. These resources allow my creativity to take my students to the next level of educational ability. As I use the resources provided, I will better equip the students with the ability to compete globally with other children. Also the students will have an in-depth knowledge of skills that will ensure them success not only academically, but in the world socially.
Please continue to support Donor Choose projects that will ensure educational success for all children.”

Comfort Reading in Comfort Seating
Funded Aug 23, 2011This is just a small way on behalf of my class to show our appreciation for your kindness toward us. The bean bag chairs that were donated to my class are used on a daily basis. Prior to getting the bean bag chairs, my students sat at their tables or on the floor for "free reading time". Now they are able to sit comfortably while reading. The bean bags have been a great addition to our class.
With school budgets being cut around the country, it is vital for the community to pitch in where needed. This ensure that students are getting what they need to achieve in the school setting. Without generous donations from persons as yourself, some classrooms are not able to receive the resources they may need. I greatly appreciate you in helping my students this year and many years to come.”

Happy Hoppers In Action: Picture Me In 1st Grade!
Funded Mar 30, 2011I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generous donation to my class project. My students were so excited to receive the materials. The cameras, paper and printer were used to create books that chronicled their year in first grade. The materials will be used for students in future years as well.
The funding for this project allowed my students to take ownership of their learning. They were able to put the writing process into action as they wrote their own personal books. My students enjoyed taking pictures and being able to print them to illustrate their books. The proudest moment for the students was the "author's chair". They were able to read and show their books to their classmates. I have never seen so many smiles.
I appreciate donors like you pouring back into the community to help children across the United States achieve academic excellence! Your kindness will never be forgotten.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Helton Johnson
