We're Ear for Literacy!
Funded Mar 30, 2023Thank you again for your generous donations to "We're EAR for Literacy." My students are I were excited to receive the resources to kick-start new literacy stations in our class.
During Reading periods, students are broken up into 6 literacy groups. While I work with one group of students, 5 other groups are sent off to engage independently with literacy materials.
It isn't always easy to keep students engaged and on-task when I'm unable to give them the attention and support they need. With the new materials, students were eager to read along to the audio version of their favorite book, listening and mimicking the cadence and tonal changes of the reader.
I was surprised to find out that my students particularly enjoyed the non-fiction book sets. As they followed along with the audio, they picked up interesting information about their favorite animals; with time and repetition, they were also able to slowly pick up content-related vocabulary and use it in classroom discourse. For example, students were able to use the word "habitat" in science discourse.
Thanks to all the resources that you donated, I am better able to focus on the students that I am working with while being fully confident that the rest of my class is engaged in their own independent work. I cannot thank you enough for all the learning that is happening in our classroom!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Yong

Funded Sep 30, 2022My young scholars and I would like to thank you for allowing us to practice literacy sustainably using the various materials that we received.
In our growth-themed classroom, we focus our attention on positive behaviors as well as our progress towards these behaviors. The plant plush toy, whom we named Perry the Potted Plant has been a central part of our class culture to reinforce team work.
We've also used the dry erase pockets in all subject area, but most importantly in Reading/Literacy, where we would learn new words and practice writing on the pockets.
Each week, we learn and practice 5-7 new words that required a piece of paper each. With the help of the dry erase pockets, we were able to reduce the use of printing papers while sustainably practice reading and writing!
We really appreciate your donation and we will think of your generosity as we are learning and practicing literacy everyday!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Yong
