  • Diversity Through Books!

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

Thank you for supporting diversity in my second grade classroom. The diverse books have sparked a new interest in reading for my students. It is important for students to see themselves and their lives represented in the books they read in the classroom.

After reading, we have invigorating class discussions about the character's problems, character traits, relationships and make text to self connections.

Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Once again, thank you for bringing these books to our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lui

  • At-Home Learning Materials for Second Graders!

    Funded May 10, 2021

Thank you for your generous donations. My second graders were thrilled to get the soft and cuddly stuffed animal. Now, everyone has a buddy to read to and share their ideas with during reading workshop. Students also enjoyed having the kinetic sand at home to create and be imaginative. We can now have remote "choice time" at home for the class to have fun together. The students were excited to color, chit chat, and design with the Eric Carle activity book.

Once again, thank you so much for providing these materials for students to use at home during remote learning.”

  • We Are Series About Reading! Part 2

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

Thank you for supporting reading in my second grade classroom. Right now, my students are reading about 20 minutes independently each day. Our goal at the end of the year is to read independently for 45 minutes to one hour. We will be reading and comprehending various kinds of fiction and nonfiction books. The books you have funded will help us achieve our reading goals.

The series books have also sparked a new interest in reading for my students. The recurring characters in the series allow them to have support as they read and discuss the books with their peers. Some of my students will read the books independently, while some students will read the books in reading groups. After reading, we have invigorating class discussions about the character's problems, character traits, and relationships with secondary characters.”

  • Books for Distance Learning!

    Funded Feb 9, 2021

Thank you for your generous donations. The books you have funded will motivate students to read more and more at home as we learn remotely. Second graders love to read about topics such as dinosaurs, animals, plants, and space. Students will read information and see compelling visuals to learn more about their topic. Research has shown that reading nonfiction books will help students develop comprehension, vocabulary, and analytical skills. My second graders loved reading about Fly Guy while learning about scary creatures such as snakes, dinosaurs, bats, insects, and sharks. Then for writing workshop, students used the Fly Guy series as a mentor text to write their own comic book version on a topic they researched. Students wrote about spiders, dogs, dolphins, and wolves. Just like the author, Tedd Arnold, my second graders had beautiful illustrations, dialogue, and super cool facts in their nonfiction topic.

Once again, thank you for your support!”

  • At-Home Learning Materials for Second Graders!

    Funded Feb 7, 2021

Thank you for your generous donations to my classroom. My second graders were super excited to see all the bright colored pencils, notebooks, Post Its, scissors, glue sticks, and erasers. As we embark on remote learning during a pandemic, it has been crucial for students to have their own supplies to use on a daily basis. The Post Its have come in handy when we make jots in reading, edit our writing, and do computation in math. Students have also used the their notebook for homework assignments, word study, and literacy. Thank you also for providing scissors, colored pencils, tape, and glue sticks for art lessons. Despite all the challenges, my second graders continue to work hard and play hard in our second grade classroom.

Once again, thank you for supporting education! Your support is greatly appreciated.”

  • Snacking During Remote Learning at Home!

    Funded Feb 5, 2021

Thank you for donating snacks to my very hungry second graders! The long school day is a big adjustment for students at home. Students work non-stop in reading, writing, math, science, art, computers, and physical education during the school day. Their tummies get hungry after remote learning. The snacks will provide a burst of energy for my second graders to finish their assignments in Google Classroom. I know my students and their families will enjoy snacking on goldfish, cookies, chips, animal crackers, and fruit snacks.

Yummy! Yummy! Thank you from our tummies!”

  • We Need Books For Reading Workshop!

    Funded Oct 22, 2020

Thank you for donating the character books for our second grade classroom. We will meet in small reading groups to read and discuss characters, such as Pinky and Rex, Elmer, Katie Woo and Brownie and Pearl. Students will enjoy having the actual book to read and follow along during reading workshop. Students will jot their reading responses on post its and in their reading notebook. Students were excited when they found out they could mark up the book while reading. They thought they would have to return the book to school!

Once again, thank you so, so much for funding the books for us to use in our second grade classroom.”

  • Basic Art Supplies

    Funded Oct 22, 2020

I can not begin to describe the joy these art materials have brought to my second graders! We have been using the brown paper bags to make numerous puppets. After our trip to the zoo, students made a puppet of their favorite animal and made a video about their animal. Then for Thanksgiving, students made a turkey puppet and then disguised their turkey puppet after reading, Turkey Trouble. My students had a blast! For the winter celebration, students made reindeer, elves, Santa, and snowman puppets. They used the construction paper and glitter glue to create their designs. Along with the fancy paper edge craft scissors, students have been working on various art projects since September.

Once again, thank you so much for funding the art materials for my second grade classroom!”
