Diverse Classroom Library

Funded Sep 14, 2022

Thank you so much for the wonderful set of books. Many of the books we received were either a part of a collection or targeted towards diverse students. The books are very inclusive of students from all racial, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, which fits the students in the class. These books allow students to see themselves as characters in a story and relate to what happens. They encourage students to pickup a book and do more reading, while also broadening their horizon of other cultures around the world.

In our classroom there is a huge emphasis on reading, as many of our students are reading below grade-level. We do independent reading everyday after lunch for 15 minutes. As the teacher, I choose a book to read at least once every week. I usually choose a picture book that the students can connect to. In the spring students will be doing their own book projects, along with biographies. The diverse set of biographies we were given will be of great use.

Many of the students are particularly enjoying the Dog Man books we received. These graphic novels are a great introduction to reading and really encourage the students to pick up books. We love our library additions!!”

With gratitude,

Ms. Babel
