A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

Funded Sep 21, 2024

My project, "A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words" has been a great success with the influx of the donated materials requested; Primary Journals, Playdough, and laminating sheets. As I introduced the journals, the children became very excited; calling out some- things they wanted to draw. We had been discussing different aspects of Christmas, as well as, somethings the children were wanting for Christmas. So, I suggested they draw Christmas pictures or gifts they were hoping for. They eagerly set to drawing pictures of family, Santa, Christmas trees, snowmen, cookies for Santa, reindeer, presents, and even a rainbow. It was very insightful as we dictated their interpretations of their pictures.

The gift of the Playdough was greatly celebrated. We were about to run out. Our last tubs were almost too dry to shape. As I stated in my request, the playdough center is a favorite. I greatly enjoy hearing the descriptions of what has been created. "Look, Ms. K, I made a gingerbread man," says a student. Others share a heart, a Santa, a candy cane, a house, and a reindeer. I never get tired of seeing students learn how to share/express/forge things they see in their mind's eye or emotions from their heart.

The laminating sheets have helped make reusable materials, as well as, some very nice keep-sakes for parents.”

With gratitude,

Ms. K
