  • Headphones Are Essential, Too!

    Funded Jun 11, 2020

I am writing this letter to express my sincere appreciation for fulfilling my Donors Choose grant titled, 'Headphones are Essential, Too'. I initially wrote this grant to be purchased for in-person learning, however, my students began the school year and are currently in remote learning.

In my virtual classroom, every student has an iPad in which to access Zoom to receive live instruction from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm Tuesday through Friday. It has been a blessing to have each child with a quality pair of headphones in order to focus on my instruction and to lessen any distractions in their home environment.

Students are able to view learning videos, practice basic math facts and high frequency words, as well use websites that include thousands of books at their fingertips. Students can use their iPads to create and publish books and create video presentations to share with others. Honestly, the ideas are endless when it comes to technology!!

We are so fortunate to have quality headphones for all of my students. Again, thank you for providing us with the peaceful opportunities to be able to focus and complete our best work. We appreciate your generosity and thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Baldin

  • Ipads + Headphones = Success!

    Funded Aug 14, 2019

I am writing this letter to express my sincere appreciation for the opportunity you provided my second grade students this school year. Headphones are part of my school supply list each year, and they are probably one of the most important items needed to be successful each day.

My students are fortunate to be recipients of a 1:1 iPad grant, which allows each student to use an iPad to extend their learning. Students use these quality headphones throughout the day for various activities, such as: basic math fact practice, Seesaw assignments, creating iBooks, and completing math and reading assessments. It's truly amazing what my 7-and 8-year old students can accomplish on these devices.

Again, we appreciate your generosity and thank you for providing our students with quality headphones. We thank you every day!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Baldin

  • Missing:Headphones

    Funded Aug 17, 2018

I am writing this letter to express my sincere appreciation for fulfilling my Donors Choose grant titled, Missing Headphones. My classroom is a 1:1 iPad classroom where each of my students have access to an iPad in which to complete daily tasks. Students use various apps to practice basic math facts and high frequency words, as well as websites that include thousands of books at their fingertips. Students can use their iPads to create and publish books and create video presentations to share with others. Honestly, the ideas are endless when it comes to technology!!

As I walk around my classroom visiting with students as they are using their iPads, I noticed that the classroom didn't seem calm and relaxed....I was missing a key component, headphones!! As part of the supply list, I had requested that my students bring earbuds or headphones at the beginning of the school year. Many of my students purchased earbuds, which were the cheaper option, but we soon found out that the earbuds did not fit my students' ears. I would purchase cheap headphones that I knew wouldn't last, but at least it would provide some peace and quiet in the classroom. I am so thankful that my grant was funded to be able to purchase headphones that fit my second graders. As students work away on their iPads, I can meet with small groups of students helping them better understand a concept in a peaceful environment.

Headphones aren't just for iPad use, we also use them for independent reading. Students are asked to read independently for 20-30 minutes each day. While students are reading, I meet with small groups to focus on a specific reading strategy. In order for my other students to concentrate, they usually wear their headphones to keep them focused on their reading.

We are so fortunate to have quality headphones for all my students. Again, thank you for providing us with the peaceful opportunities to be able to focus and complete our best work. We appreciate your generosity and thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Baldin

  • Everyday Needs

    Funded May 7, 2011

I can't begin to tell you how thankful my students and I are for your generous donation of classroom supplies. Many of my students did not come on the first day of school with the necessary supplies and it was nice to be able to provide them with what they needed just by getting into my supply cabinet. Now that it is mid-year, students are beginning to need new supplies and I was able to provide them with a new box of crayons, set of markers, scissors, and/or pencils.

Thanks to all of you we have a variety of writing paper to use in the writing center. Students enjoy using paper that is age appropriate, just for second graders. I keep a supply of crayons and markers in the writing center for them to access and illustrate their work.

Again, thank you for providing our classroom with the necessary tools to help us learn. It's one less thing that my students have to worry about daily.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Baldin

I have 25 second grade students this school year and we engage in various activities. We enjoy using our iPads to learn, making and trying foods that go along with our themes, going on field trips, reader's theater, and other projects that keep learning interesting. Over 90% of our students come from low-income homes and often do not get to experience what you and I did when we were growing up.
