  • Bring Back Board Games!

    Funded Feb 12, 2025

On behalf of myself and the three hundred students in Kindergarten through fifth grade, we want to thank you for your generosity. Through your donation you were able to provide us with multiple card games and board games for student use. These games will provide endless hours of social interaction.

There is a lot to be learned while playing card games and board games. Games develop social skills, cognitive abilities, and language skills. They can also help kids learn to take turns, follow rules, and handle winning and losing.

Again, thank you for helping us 'Bring Back Board Games' for our students. We have already begun enjoying Connect 4, and look forward to playing UNO, Sorry! and classic card games.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Baldin

  • In Need Of Sensory Hallways!

    Funded Dec 4, 2024

I am writing this letter to express my sincere appreciation for fulfilling my Donors Choose grant titled, 'In Need of Sensory Hallways.'

Through your generosity, we have sensory hallways for our younger students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. These sensory hallways have transformed our K-2 hallway space into a child-friendly, thematic, and safe area for movement. With this intentional movement as they walk down the hallway, it helps students refocus and be able to be attentive in the classroom.

You were also able to provide us with an additional set of soccer goal nets for our upper elementary students. Now each grade level has their own set of goals to play an organized game of soccer. No sharing, no arguing...it's a win, win!!

We want our students to have multiple opportunities to develop fine and gross motor skills, play together, and work off excess energy. We appreciate your generosity and thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Baldin

  • Help Me Build My SEL Library

    Funded Sep 18, 2024

I am so thankful that my Donors Choose project titled 'Help Me Build My SEL Library' was funded! I appreciate each one of you for supporting the social emotional needs of my students.

I have thoroughly enjoyed sharing these books to help students manage their anger, frustrations, and sadness. Each week I visit multiple classrooms and share a read aloud that will engage students. Even my older students enjoy a great read aloud and then a rich discussion always follows!

I look forward to reading more of these books to my various classes, as well as sharing them with my colleagues to help more students.

Again, thank you for your generosity and supporting my students with their social emotional needs.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Baldin

  • Let's Talk About SEL!

    Funded Aug 21, 2024

I am writing this letter to express my sincere appreciation for fulfilling my Donors Choose grant titled, 'Let's Talk About SEL!"

These Social Emotional Learning (SEL) read alouds will be a great addition to my SEL library. Students love when I visit their classroom to read a book about their feelings and emotions. These books will stir up a lot of great coversations among students.

These specific read alouds will be used with my younger students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. Talking about social emotional learning provides powerful learning for everyone.

Again, thank you for your generosity! I appreciate you!”

    With gratitude,

  • Elkonin Boxes, Geoboards, Oh My!

    Funded May 10, 2024

I am writing this letter to express my sincere appreciation for fulfilling my Donors Choose grant titled, 'Elkonin Boxes, Geoboards, Oh My'

Through your generosity, each student has a geoboard to use during our math lessons. Magnetic letters are used during our phonics lessons by having students push magnetic letters onto Elkonin Boxes to help them say each letter-sound in a word and blend the sounds together. A self-serve pencil dispenser is used when students are in need of a pencil.

Students now have access to individual geoboards, phonics activities to help them read and sharpened pencils. It's always exciting to have new learning tools to use with our students. We appreciate you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Baldin

  • Let's Build With Legos!

    Funded May 20, 2024

I am writing this letter to express my sincere appreciation for fulfilling my Donors Choose grant titled, 'Let's Build with Legos.'

Through your generosity, we now have hands-on activities for our life science lessons. Students will be able to investigate plant life by creating and building plant models. Building with Legos will help strengthen hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, problem solving skills, self-confidence and improved concentration.

We are fortunate to have these learning tools to help us better understand plant life. Again, thank you for providing Tiny Plant Legos for our classroom. Students learn best through play and building these plant models will help them make connections to their learning.

We appreciate your generosity and thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

  • Feelings and Emotions

    Funded Dec 27, 2023

I am so thankful that my Donors Choose project titled 'Feelings and Emotions' was funded! I appreciate each one of you for supporting the social emotional needs of my students.

When I displayed the Little Spot of Feelings book and the mini emotion plush toys, my students eyes lit up! They were so excited that we had our own classroom set, just like our School Psychologist brings to our class each week. These plush toys will help them talk through their feelings and emotions in small groups and/or whole class.

Along with our Little Spot of Feelings book, we also received books to help students manage their anger, frustrations, and sadness. I also have read alouds to discuss empathy and motivation. I am looking forward to reading these books to my class, as well as sharing them with my colleagues to help more students.

Again, thank you for your generosity and supporting our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Baldin

I have 25 second grade students this school year and we engage in various activities. We enjoy using our iPads to learn, making and trying foods that go along with our themes, going on field trips, reader's theater, and other projects that keep learning interesting. Over 90% of our students come from low-income homes and often do not get to experience what you and I did when we were growing up.
