Stop Stressin'!
Funded Feb 22, 2023Thank you so much for your contribution to "Stop Stressin" which added even more stress-management and wellness items to my Self-Care and Calming Center!
The students loved the pin-art and sand art frames and were happy to use the sensory stickers on their phone cases, laptops and notebooks. The pin-art provided many giggles while the sand art frame allowed them some much needed mindfulness as they watched the sand fall and take-on different designs.
More-so, they were appreciative of the constant reminders these items provide- reminders to breathe, relax, refocus and use the skills they have been practicing.
I am so appreciative of the support you've provided my students through these projects. I'm looking forward to continuing this lifelong journey with them into the next school year!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Walters
Self-Care and Calming Center
Funded Aug 12, 2022Thank you so much for your contribution to the "Self Care and Calming Center." Students love the space and are benefitting from the tools and strategies that are available to them. The project was able to fund the materials necessary to help students get comfortable, calm down, and have access to resources that will teach them healthy coping strategies. The project funded fidget items, self-care tools, and calming features that make the room welcoming, calming and inviting.
The most common reaction students have upon entering the space is, relief. Everyone
(teachers and students) who enters the room feels and immediate sense of calm. Students appreciate the fact that there is a designated space for them to de-stress and refocus. They feel validated and supported and have reported that they are utilizing many of the skills that they have learned from the resources in the room. Many students use the space for scheduled breaks as identified in their IEPs and have reported that the room has helped them have productive days. The space has also developed into a place where students support one another. Students will check in with each other and share a little bit about how they are doing. This has led to many healthy social interactions, friendships, and peer support. Although we did not anticipate that this would happen, it has been a wonderful outcome of the project.
In the future, we would like to expand the impact of the room by holding student group meetings (for grief, stress-management, etc.) either after school or during the school day.
Thank you again for the support you have provided towards this project. It continues to impact the lives of our students and school community in amazing ways.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Walters
