Creating 3-D Models of Ancient Architecture
Funded Dec 19, 2023Since receiving your donation, I've been able to implement more hands on activities in my curriculum. No only have we been able to learn about architecture through the creations I've been able to make using the Cricut machine, but we've also been able to use it as a tool for organizing information about the different cultures we've been studying as well. For instance, when studying Hinduism I created a foldable cardstock board that students used to illustrate and write about different components of Hinduism. The project allowed students in my classroom who are very artistically inclined to really shine. We also tried creating scale models of the Parthenon, which was a little trial an error! However, we were still able to create something that provided a great visual of such a lasting symbol of Greek culture and intellect.
Most of my students knew what a Cricut machine was already, so seeing one in the classroom made them excited. A lot of them asked what I was going to do with it, etc. and shared some of their own ideas for what we can do with it. I've also been able to use it to create magnetic labels for my boards in the classroom, tags for student supplies, and "tickets" for a reward system I use. Overall, it's been really fun for all of us to have this machine available to use. Our next steps with the Cricut machine will be to try and create scale models of the Roman colosseum and maybe a scale model of a traditional Japanese home.
We are so very grateful for what you've been able to enable us to do in 7th grade World Studies classrooms here at McCarthy Middle School!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Lanouette
