Crafting a Creative Classroom
Funded Jul 25, 2022Thank you again for donating to my classroom! The supplies you purchased has been a great asset in my room for students and for myself. During the last three months of school, students have worked hard on learning critical thinking skills and developing their understanding of the world around them. The supplies have come in handy during project based assignments, as students created colonies and built survival games.
In Maine History, the supplies became a critical item in the first portion of one of our projects. Students had worked together in small groups to create colonies based off of the Popham Colony. They used the foam boards, popsicle sticks, clay, eraser figures and more to create these three dimensional displays. The students then played a game of situations, where I created situations the students would have to work though and keep their colony alive. The whiteboard acted as a scoreboard and a place where I could dramatically change the survival points of each colony. Students enjoyed it greatly.
Essentially, my students and I want to extend our gratitude for your donation. As a first year teacher, I feel privileged to have these type of supplies that enables me to create such an engaging classroom.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Brown
A Winning Whiteboard
Funded Jul 18, 2022Thank you again for donating to my classroom! The moving whiteboard has been a great asset in my room for students and for myself. During the last three months of school, students have worked hard on learning critical thinking skills and developing their understanding of the world around them. The whiteboard has come in handy during review games, as students play Pictionary or an adjusted form of Jeopardy. We recently did this as a review in my Modern Government class. Students loved it and it created the competitive atmosphere needed for this specific class to become engaged in the content.
In Maine History, the whiteboard became a critical item in the second portion of one of our projects. Students had worked together in small groups to create colonies based off of the Popham Colony. From there, I assessed the student-built colonies and awarded survival points. The students then played a game of situations, where I created situations the students would have to work though and keep their colony alive. The whiteboard acted as a scoreboard and a place where I could dramatically change the survival points of each colony. Students enjoyed it greatly.
