Ms. Magalong's Mythical Classroom
Funded Sep 18, 2024In our classroom, we spend the start of each period reading independently for about 10-15 minutes. While students read, they take notes on various parts of the text such as main events, key characters, or important topics and themes that appear in the novel. Due to your donations, students are able to identify character development and analyze how Percy evolves throughout the course of the novel. They are also able to formulate a CER paragraph explaining how Percy demonstrates the characteristics of an epic hero.
Many of my students have expressed that they enjoyed reading the novel. The students find the topic of Greek mythology extremely interesting and they enjoyed seeing how a depiction of the Greek gods and goddesses in modern time. Several of my students have asked for us to watch the movie and the TV show so that they can compare the differences and similarities between the novel and the adaptations!
Overall, this project has truly renewed an interest in reading for most of my students. They were also able to do well on standards-based assignments such as writing an essay based on the book!”

Funded Jul 25, 2023My students and I are incredibly grateful for your donations. Due to your generosity, the students are able to take organized notes using the supplies provided by you. Throughout the past quarter, the students and I have been working on developing their Writer's Notebooks. These notebooks are divided into the four different skillsets that students are encouraged to master in their English classes: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
With your help, students are able to create vocabulary cards using the glue sticks and writing utensils to learn new grade-level words to develop their vocabulary skills. Additionally, students benefitted from having erasers and different pencils and pens without having to worry about bothering their busy parents to make runs for school supplies.
Students were also able to keep safe and clean by using the Kleenex and hand sanitizers provided by you.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Magalong
