They use these pens to annotate texts in Literacy class. The colorful pencil cases help keep our students organized and prepared for class. The stickers with motivational quotes help them keep a positive outlook on learning throughout the day.

This classroom project was brought to life by An Anonymous Classroom Supporter and 12 other donors.ICT Flexible Seating and Organizational Support for SPED students.
Funded Jun 28, 2022My students are using our new flexible seating options in the classroom in a variety of ways. They use them to work collaboratively with one another in cooperative small groups. They use the tables and benches to work independently in different areas around the room or in pairs to complete a learning activity. Many of them like to use the high table as a stand-up desk where they can work independently when taking an assessment or constructing a wriiting response. Recently, they used the tables during a small group activity in which they each had a specific role within their group to analyze two texts that share a common theme and create a poster. They analyzed how the authors of "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel and "Story of Kees" by Jack London used figurative language to develop a theme through shifts in a character's perspective.
My students were so excited to see their flexible seating options and were also excited to receive their new colorful pencil cases. On the first day of school I allowed each student to choose their favorite color and equipped them with pencils and pens to prepare them for learning this year. They said that it made them feel special to get a gift from their teacher on the first day of school that would help them stay organized. They said that they felt important because their teachers thought about their needs and what type of seating would make them most comfortable in the classroom.
Our students will continue to collaborate with one another throughout the year analyzing complex texts, breaking down rigorous tasks, and creating quality products that demonstrate their ability to analyze and synthesize information in a variety of ways. I am excited to see what they create and happy to know they feel like they have a team of people in you, the donors, that have their backs and want them to succeed. Thank you for all you have done to support our students.”
