  • Science Class Essentials!

    Funded Apr 28, 2025

Thank you so much for the generosity you have shown to my project. It is so important to me that I provide my students the best materials so they can have a rewarding experience in science.

Students get so excited when they are able to use real equipment like the safety goggles that your donation helped acquire. It makes them feel like they are doing something really important!”

    With gratitude,

  • "This Little Tower Was Made of Straws"

    Funded Feb 5, 2025

Thank you so much for your generous donations to my project! The straws were used for an engineering project where students had to build a straw tower with just tape that could hold a cup of water for 60 seconds.

My students were very excited about the straws because they are larger and stronger than your average drinking straw.

What blew my mind the most was the incredible creativity the students brought to the project! Everyone was so engaged and tried so hard to make the tallest structure.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Kilmartin

  • A Project that Pulls Them in Like a Magnet

    Funded Nov 13, 2024

Thank you so much for your donations to my classroom! With your help I was able to provide a very engaging hands-on activity.

The lesson was about the push and pull of magnets. I began the lesson by asking the students which magnet they felt had the strongest magnetic forces: a small magnet, a medium magnet, or a large magnet. Pretty much every one agreed that a large magnet had the strongest magnetic force. So we tested that theory!

Students used a U-shaped magnet (small magnet), a bar magnet (medium magnet) and a magnetic wand (large magnet) to see which one would attract a paperclip from farther away.

They learned that it was actually the small U-shaped magnet that had the strongest magnetic force, because both poles are facing the same way.

Thank you again for helping me obtain such wonderful materials!”

  • (I Love That) Dirty Water Project

    Funded Oct 8, 2024

I can't thank you enough for your donations which helped me provide my class with a very fun, engaging project. My students were thrilled to create their own water filters with the materials your donations allowed me to get.

The pictures only show a fractions of the wonderful work my students were able to do during this project. They worked in groups, pretending to work for the Clean Water Environmental Compary. Their task was to create a water filter to clean the water of a community whose water supply had become polluted.

They began by testing one type of material as a filter. Those materials were sand, soil, charcoal, cotton balls, pebbles, and a coffee filter. After seeing the results, students could create a filter with as many materials as they wanted to. Then we determined which group had the cleanest water.

    Thank you again!”

  • Essential Classroom Supplies

    Funded Mar 15, 2024

I can't thank you all enough for you generous donations that allowed us to get some much needed supplies for our classroom. The kids were so excited to see all the different colors of markers!

We have used the supplies for activities such as creating colorful graphs. In science, graps are very important to learn and understand. The kids enjoyed choosing from a plethora of colors to make their graphs easy to read.

As the year progresses we will continue to use the supplies to create large color posters, which will display their knowledge on different scientific subjects.

    Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Kilmartin

  • Games! Games! Games!

    Funded Sep 27, 2024

I can't thank you enough for donating to my Games, Games Games project. The kids were so excited when I revealed the games to them. Each game got a round of applause!

When we had indoor recess, the kids were so happy playing all the games. As I walked around, the smiles and laughter were so infectious! More than once I heard the student say to each other, "This is so much fun!"

What I found most enjoyable was that not one student used their computer during recess. Every one of them involved themselves in one or more classic board games. It was really pretty amazing. Thank you again!”

  • Science Glass for Science Class

    Funded Mar 9, 2024

We cannot thank you enough for the glassware your donations have provided to our classrooms. Students were able to use the glassware for many different types of experiments. For example, in 6th grade science, students were able to use the beakers to heat and cool ammonia to test how quickly molecules move in hot and cold baths!

Our students were so excited when we opened the boxes in from of them! We had many comments that our rooms felt like real science labs, now that we had such professional looking materials.

As you may know, our current school year is over. However we are very excited to introduce our materials to a new group of 5th graders who will have the opportunity to use materials as these for the very first time! With our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, we will provide them the opportunity to use the materials for many new types of experiments!”

  • Rock Solid Science Activity!

    Funded Jan 1, 2024

Thank you so much for your donation of the wonderful rock kits to our science room! The students had a great time studying the rocks for our "Incoming Asteroid" project. The rocks were perfect for what we needed.

During the project, the students needed to determine which type of rock would be easiest to penetrate for underground caverns. The caverns would be used to house up to 10 million people, protecting them from an incoming asteroid.

After examining and testing each rock sample, the students were able to make an educated guess as to which type of rock would be best for underground caverns. With your help, my students were able to have an engaging hands-on experience that they will remember for years to come!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Kilmartin

  • What's the Matter With Us? We Need Better Balance Scales!

    Funded Nov 7, 2023

I can't tell you how excited the kids were to be using brand new balance scales for our science activity! They kept putting their hands on the scales, and measuring the mass of everything in the classroom!

The photos show the activity we first used the scales for. In this activity, they were learning what happens to matter when it is heated (or cooled). First they measured the mass of a bag of ice and recorded the data. Then, we melted the ice a little and measured the mass of the bag of ice and water. Finally, we melted the ice all the way, and measured the mass of the bag of water. Students were so surprised to see that the mass stayed the same for all three tests!

Next time we will be using the scales to examine what happens to matter when we mix different substances together. Will the mass stay the same? We'll see!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Kilmartin
