Performing for Radio
Funded Oct 13, 2022Thank you so much for providing Radio Plays for my class to use. They are an asset to my classes. The students are currently learning about the history of Radio Plays and how sound effects were made in the past. These plays give my students the opportunity to create a radio play production. They are very excited about the process of using their voices to tell the story of the play. Most of my students are experiencing theater for the first time and getting an opportunity to see that some plays were meant to be just heard is exciting to them. I hope in the future to allow add creating sound effects the old fashioned way to my curriculum.”

Welcome to the Theater
Funded Sep 29, 2022Thank you so much for supporting our students. This project allowed students to learn about sound equipment. It also let the students use microphones in their scene work. They learned how to connect the components of sound to a mixer and how it all works together. This was fascinating to students who are just experiencing the wonders of theater. My students range from honor students to Special Education students and it was wonderful to see that all of them got to try out the body microphones. They will also be used in future staged performances scheduled later this year.”

Funded Aug 15, 2022My classes are so excited to have a real spotlight to use while learning about lighting.
I've begun by teaching my special education students how to use it. It is amazing to see the students who many people think of last, learning about something first.
Just today, I watched as one sixth grade student explained and modeled using the lens for focus to two peers. And then be amazed when I said that the three of them would be on my list to use the light for any events in the auditorium. I will continue to teach my other classes. The light will also be available to other teachers for performances or events in the auditorium.”

Funded Jun 15, 2022The materials that you funded have been well used in my classroom. I have set up a stage area in my classroom using the black screen and curtains. All of my students really enjoy performing on our stage.
Our first class unit was on pantomime. The students learned basic pantomime. The unit culminated with each student performing on the stage area a pantomime of an activity they do often. Some examples were brushing teeth, making sandwiches and even a pantomime tug of war by two students. Having an area to perform in the classroom helped the students feel that it was a performance rather than a class activity.
Then we used the masks with other costume pieces to perform fractured fairytales. Each group wrote a new twist on a fairytale. This week they are performing and having a wonderful time.”

The Play's the Thing: We Want to Create Them
Funded Jun 10, 2022The books of scenes and monologues have definitely been an asset in my drama class. Groups of students can work together to choose scenes to perform. Our next unit is about monologues. The students have been using these books to choose a monologue that they can connect with. With 30 students in many of my classes, having multiple copies of the same book allows each group to explore their options at the same time.
Some of my classes are starting scene study. The books allow them to work together as they create their sc”
