It's Not Rocket Science, It's Reading!
Funded Dec 2, 2024Thanks to your gift, we were able to stock our Cub Store with many reading incentives for our students. We start each month with a reading challenge tied to holidays or themes, and students are asked to read 4-5 books as well as write a summary about each book. This is required of all grade levels, with a set of expectations based on age-appropriateness. When students turn in their reading challenge log, they read it to me and I offer praise and affirmations for reading. If their log is complete, they're invited to visit the Cub Store to choose a reward--these range from diaries, novels, "mystery boxes" and sports equipment to school supplies. These students are then excited to complete the next month's challenge. Thanks to you!
Your generosity has enabled us to complete this program and we are very grateful. It is so tough to lure our students away from their gaming devices and they miss the joy of completing a novel. Most of us are motivated to read by the creativity and imagination of an author as s/he presents a story. Incentivizing our students to discover the joy of reading is a big part of my job. Thank you so much for helping us reach our readers!”

Ms. Cox
We Wet Our Plants!
Funded Apr 30, 2024As we began the new school year, your packages started to arrive. We were able to use your many gifts to build our agricultural corner in the library, adding dozens of new titles to our collection. These books will be used to support our many students who are actively engaged in learning about caring for their animals in preparation for their involvement in 4H as well as the county and state fair. We have many garden and growing activities on our campus, so many of these books will support our students as they learn about agriculture, horticulture, and gardening.
I've attached photos of our Ag Corner, and we have already seen students get excited about the opportunities to learn more about their AG projects. For example, last week we celebrated our county fair, and many of our students presented animals they raised. Thanks to your gifts, they can now access books about cows, sheep, rabbits, pigs, and chickens to support their projects.
Thank you so much for your generosity in growing strong readers who will have such a bright future.”

Ms. Cox

Funded Mar 24, 2024I want to thank you on behalf of the 600 students we serve in our library for the support you have shown us through Donors Choose. Our grant request, "Read and Lead" was a call for books to share with our students who have few resources at home as we are a Title I campus. By adding new, vibrant books to our collection, and then displaying those books so they are accessible to our students, you have enabled us to build readers!
As adults, we understand that reading is essential for lifelong success. Our students may come to us with limited vocabularies and exposure to print. By putting books in their hands, you have helped us refresh our collection and provide our students with great new books. Thank you for your generosity! Your gift matters to us!”

Forget Screen Time! Let's Read!
Funded Dec 19, 2023Teaching is the greatest work I know, and I love coming to work each day. Sharing my love for reading has been harder over the last 20 years as so many students are glued to technology. However, they still love to read and finding ways to engage their interest and aptitude is super important. The new books we have ordered, catalogued, and added to our library are books that our students are super-excited to read.
I have one student who chooses every new biography that gets added to the library. Another is waiting for new books in series he's enjoyed--The Lightning Thief cannot strike fast enough! Some are engaged in cooking or craft books. Others just want to know which animals are fiercer than others.
Thanks to you, our students are engaged and excited about reading. We are so grateful for your support!”

Ms. Cox
Bippity Boppity Beanstack Bookshop
Funded Jun 19, 2023Our theme for this year is aimed at helping our students understand that our school is a happy place. After years of "Covid recovery" and limitations @ school, life has finally returned to our new normal and we wanted to increase our reading enjoyment as well as reading achievement. We know that students who read more will read better. The "Bippity Boppity Beanstack Bookshop" is now fully stocked, thanks to your generous donations.
When students read and respond to their reading with a review, they earn tickets to visit the bookshop, where they can pick out literacy-related rewards that include the many items you donated. There is such excitement in being able to choose a "new" item as we are a Title I school, and many of our students don't have an opportunity to shop for themselves.
Over the course of the year, our many readers will appreciate your gift, and READING, the greatest gift of all, will serve them for a lifetime. Thank you so much for your generosity!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Cox
Reading is Sweet!
Funded Apr 13, 2023As we wrap up this school year I would like to thank all of you for the impact your donation has made on the students who read at our school. Our goal was to instill the JOY of reading in our students as we compete with all the digital and social media channels that are part of our students' lives. I'm happy to report that using our software tools, our students logged 5,418 books read, 2,752 book reviews submitted, 591 activities completed, and 233,952 minutes of reading time logged. Students who met their reading goals visited the Reading Store to buy "prizes" using their "book bucks" and were so excited to select new books, school supplies, and fun tie-ins with the books and resources they selected. Thanks so very much for being part of this project with us!”

Ms. Cox
