Classroom Calculators for Efficiency!

Thank you so much for funding our project! Having a class set of calculators may seem very basic, but it is opening a world of math for upper elementary students who struggle with fact fluency.

I primarily use the calculators with my 6th grade students, and we have been busy calculating unit prices of groceries, speeds of cars, and unit rates of recipes. By having access to a calculator, students are able to focus on the application of the math, rather than calculating division of decimals mentally or on paper. Students have been able to determine which box of granola bars are the best buy, which car is traveling at a faster rate, and how much of each ingredient is needed to cut a recipe in half.
