New Makerspace for Low Income Students

Funded Aug 19, 2022

I would like to begin by giving each and every one of you our school's sincere gratitude. Without your lift up, our students could not have experienced the new, cool, and AWESOME tools and materials.

As noted in our request for assistance, our students are from low income households, and many of our students do not have computers in their homes. By providing the hand up that you all did, they have now been able to have hands on experience with cutting edge technology. These technologies include, but are not limited to, 3D printing, coding, laser cutting and engraving.

These new skills have opened the door for students selected projects which include the following:

- laser cut wooden boxes with mechanical coded locking mechanisms

- Self-sustaining terrarium with automatic watering system

- Student designed 3D printed Christmas ornaments

- LED lit fidget spinners

- 3D printed never ending spinning top

The list goes on!

In closing, I would like to tell you that you have not just donated to a worthy cause, you have opened doors that would otherwise have not existed. Each student that experiences our new Makerspace will be fundamentally changed. They will no longer look at something and say, "That's impossible." They will look at it and say, "Let's figure this thing out!"”

With gratitude,

Mr. Smith
