  • Metamorphosis of a Reader: Early Literacy &The Very Hungry Caterpillar

    Funded Mar 26, 2025

Thank you! My students are so excited for this project! They look forward to mentoring students using “The Very Hungry Caterpillar “ story that they love and remember from their early childhood years! They’ll be so excited to hear their project was fully funded today!

    Your support means so much!”

  • Math, English, Language Enhancement with Board Games

    Funded Sep 8, 2024

Thank you for helping my gifted students by giving them board games to expand their creative thinking, growth mindset, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

They have enjoyed enriching their math and ELL skills using these board games and I love to hear them working on soft skills in a real-world setting.

You are much appreciated! These students have enjoyed spending extra time learning during lunch and even inviting a friend to see what Quest is all about over lunch and learn with board games. It has been an absolute joy to see my 6th graders blossom and find their confidence this year!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Leffler

This classroom project was brought to life by Superintendent Elsie Arntzen and the Montana OPI and one other donor.
  • Visualizing Thermal Energy with FLIR

    Funded Apr 3, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous donation of a FLIR thermal imagining camera to our classroom. My students have learned SO much from the addition of this piece to our classroom!

Being able to show my students pictures of the thermal energy all around us, has brought this topic to a new level of understanding for them. I find that we are using this connection and these images across more units of physical science than I first thought possible.

Thank you for giving me the ability to make Science hands-on and connected to the real-world for my 8th graders. Your donation is much appreciated!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Leffler

This classroom project was brought to life by IF/THEN, an initiative of Lyda Hill Philanthropies and 3 other donors.
  • Teach Me the Elements

    Funded Feb 4, 2021

Thank you for your generous support of my students at Lewis and Clark Middle School. We have had so much learning about The Periodic Table of Elements with our new supplies!

During the past couple of days and leading up to Spring Break, we have used our magnets, magnetic whiteboard and gumdrops to learn about subatomic particles: protons, neutrons and electrons in specific elements. The ability to combine hands-on instruction with rich visual materials has my students excited about Science. I am so grateful for your contribution to my classroom.

I hope these pictures will provide a little window into our classroom.

    Thank you very much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Leffler

  • Distance Learning Essentials

    Funded May 5, 2020

This has been such an interesting time to teach science to my 8th graders. My intentions are to create an interest and desire in solving problems using what we know from conducting investigations in science. That's been difficult the past few months while using distance learning platforms instead of my usual hands on, minds on approach.

These materials, a small whiteboard, chart paper and a document camera, will enable me to at least model the hands on part of a lesson so students can begin to engage in the science phenomena as we study it throughout a unit.

Thank you for your continued support and generosity of my students and classroom! I appreciate you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Leffler

  • Circuit Building With Makey Makey

    Funded Mar 12, 2019

Thank you for giving my students the opportunity to learn using a Makey Makey! Today we had our first STEM Club meeting and we used Makey Makey and play doh to introduce ourselves to the group. Then they played a piano using their Makey Makey. I wish I could share the video so you could hear the audio and the excitement in the room!

These 6, 7, and 8th graders had a blast using their new Makey Makey! They are so excited to get back to school to continue their learning with these fun tools!

Your generosity is very much appreciated! Thank you for helping us add Makey Makey to our STEM resources!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Leffler

  • Learning Empathy From Board Games

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

Today we played "Intergroup Monopoly" in class. Students had enlightening first-hand experiences with empathy. Their discussions were rich and bold. Many were frustrated with rules like,

"Player #2-You can only move half the amount you roll. You must always pay twice the amount to any player for fines or property. You can only receive half the amount due from other players, the board and the bank. If you can't afford to pay the fine, you must go to jail."

"Player #4-You are allowed to move twice the amount you roll. You collect $350 for passing go. You must buy all the properties you land on. You can buy houses and hotel two for one. You must pay twice the amount for taxes."

Thank you for allowing my students the opportunity to begin discussing empathy as it pertains to their daily life and allows them to understand the viewpoints of others. What a wonderful opportunity for each of them to learn and grow!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Leffler

  • Equity-Centered Design Thinking and Innovative Mindsets Teacher Institute

    Funded Feb 27, 2019

I am so grateful for your financial support that helped me to attend the Equity-Centered Design Thinking Institute by MindSpark Learning in Denver. I acquired so many valuable resources that I am excited to use throughout the school year.

As with many professional learning opportunities, not only did I obtain resources for my classes, I also made meaningful professional connections with other educators throughout the United States. It is always powerful to make these connections and I find that it enhances my professional learning community immensely.

    Thank you for your generosity!”

  • Preparing For The Future With a Microsoft Surface

    Funded Feb 27, 2019

Thank you for your generous donation of a Microsoft Surface to our classroom! We have it all set up and have begun using some of the new apps available to us now in the Microsoft store. It has been neat to see how easily my students have adapted to this product!

We are currently studying earth and space science while completing a PLTW survival challenge to land and live on Mars. So we are excited to have the opportunity to use the earth and space simulation app on our Surface!

Thank you again for your kindness, generosity to and belief in my students as innovators and future change makers! You are so appreciated!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Leffler

  • Drones in Middle School STEM Class

    Funded Mar 12, 2019

Thank you for your generosity to my classroom! We have received our drones and are busy learning how to navigate them. We are enjoying the opportunity to learn to code using the Codrones. We have been able to take some video using the other drones. Today we built the drone obstacle course and are awaiting the snow to melt so we can fly the drones outdoors.

The opportunity to learn using drones is upon us and we are so grateful for your investment in our adventure! Some of the posted photos are from the drone while it was being flown by a student in the school hallway before school started.

Thank you again for your gift to our classroom! We are enjoying our drones!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Leffler

I believe that now is the time to develop in my students the skills they will need for the jobs of the future. I love that my curriculum allows students this opportunity daily. My STEM classroom is fostering growth mindsets by providing the environment for learners to solve real-world problems with an understanding of the following: "Failure is NOT the opposite of success. It is PART of success" and "Success is a pile of failure. You are just standing on top of it." The reality is that most of the jobs my students will have are not even a part of our current workforce so they must be adaptive, interactive, and responsive to others and the problems and opportunities that they see in the world around them. Since exploration is the key to solving problems, it is necessary to incorporate lots of hands-on, technology-driven materials into our classroom in order to provide learners with an inspiring learning environment.
