Making a Cell
Funded Jun 15, 2022I am so happy to share with you how your donations have been used in my classroom. I was able to buy enough model magic and markers to allow the entire grade level of 210+ students make a model of a plant or animal cell complete with organelles. The students spent the majority of the first nine weeks learning about cells. Many were starting to be bored by the subject but we reminded them that the cell is the basic unit of all life on Earth.
When the project started students were very excited to do something that did not include notes. They enjoyed working with their hands to make the models. Many students said the cell model was their favorite part of the first nine weeks.
The biggest lesson I have taken from this project is that students need more hands on activities. This really is not something new for me but what keeps me from often doing hands on activities is the lack of supplies. Hands on activities brings an excitement to the class and a new energy. I am grateful that I was able to give my students this opportunity.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Morris
