Let's Grow Some Readers!
Funded Apr 8, 2025Thank you so much for supporting education! My students will have so much fun doing activities that support the reading. As we are in the homestretch of the school year the activities that you helped purchase will be just the push my students need for mastery of the skill we are working on. Thank you for your generosity!”

This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose Community and 3 other donors.Sensory Writing
Funded Oct 23, 2024When my kindergarten students got to use the magnetic writing boards they were so excited! The feel and the click of the magnets was a great way to give feedback that they were on the correct path for formation of their letters. With another group we played the sight word fishing game. Since then I have heard at least twice a week if we could play the fishing game again.
Being able to change up the routine of learning to read makes it so the students want to come to reading. It's engaging, skill based and fun!
Thank you so much for supporting my classroom. Your donation may have been one dollar amount on a random day, but the impact will be as long as I'm teaching (and then to the next teacher that takes my place). Your kindness and generosity is never taken lightly.”

Let's Return to the Basic Skills of Reading!
Funded May 3, 2024Thank you for all your support. I have been able to help so many students with the products that you helped me purchase. We have played long vowel dominos. This makes learning the long vowels more engaging. It allows students to think about which long vowel patterns to use along with a picture to reinforce their answer. The kids also use their Reading Rods to build words. The added bonus is that there are heart cubes so you can identify a heart word is amazing. The heart word manipulative helps students remember that there is something special about the word and it doesn't follow the usual phonic rules. I can't wait to use all the items that we purchased. Thank you again for all your support.
Off to teach a reading group and I'm using the reading the reading rods today!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Maxwell/Hanrahan Foundation and 2 other donors.Learning to read CAN be Fun!
Funded Nov 17, 2023The ability to use a learning tool has greatly impacted my students ability to create and read CVC words like mat, pin & pot. Some students are able to learn this skill easily while others, like the students that I teach, find building and reading words much more difficult. When I am able to use learning tools the students feel like they are playing a game. They are happy to participate and take chances while learning. Also, who can't be excited to use a manipulative that is so colorful and looks like giant crayons!
Learning tools help make an equitable learning environment. All students are engaged and excited to use a hands on manipulative. Thank you for helping me build my classroom tools for learning to read.”

Learning Phonics the Fun Way!
Funded Jan 31, 2023As the year has progressed I have been able to use all the manipulatives that I received from donors choose. Being able to manipulate letter and sounds help students who struggle with reading. Also children who are neuro-divergent are able to have hands on sensory style learning so that learning letters and sounds are not just something we do with pencil and paper, but with items they can hold in their hands. Using picture cues so that students can sound out words while writing helps keep the word that they need in their memory. Often times when children are given spoken words they will forget what the word is before they can write the whole word.
Thanks you for making this possible in my classroom.”

Bye, Bye Messy White Boards!
Funded Sep 6, 2022Thank you so much for helping me reach my goal! I have received the boogie boards and have already put them to use. My Kindergarten students are working on their letters and sounds so we have been writing letters on the boogie boards. The first graders are writing words with digraphs (th, sh, ch, wh), and using the boogie boards was so quick an easy. We have so much to pack into a 30 minute reading lesson that using the boogie boards save me so much time instead of handing out white boards and markers. Plus we can't forget how much time is wasted when the kids want a particular color (LOL) or the marker is out of ink and I have to replace it on the spot. Let's not even get into the mess they make on the table and on some students.
Thank you for making my day easier and the learning impact greater. It is sincerely appreciated.”
