Learning the Fun Way
Funded Nov 10, 2023My students have learned how to make number bonds using the math manipulative and game boards. They look forward to putting up their "privacy fence" when taking test so that others can't copy their answers. They love working in groups to put together puzzles and have learned to read and spell 52/100 sight words!!!!! We are now using more coloring assignments because all students now have access to crayons.
Next steps for my students are to start creating and writing sentences so that we can start writing a pen pal.”

Let's Get Back to Books!
Funded May 5, 2022Our friend's eyes lit up when they saw the new big book station. The first book we read was silly sally, the book came with props and they were so exciting to see the images and words so big. being able to have an interactive read loud, allowed my friends to really get a visual about the story and their understanding has improved greatly. Some of our friends were squinting while looking at the small books, and needed the exposure of seeing words in a physical book to help them understand that words have meaning. Students go to the carpet after breakfast and grab a Big Book to read while they wait for the rest of the class to join. Our friend's are emerging readers so reading for them is flipping through the pages and creating their own story by looking at the picture. Each day we choose a different student to tell us a story. This helps with public speaking, a lot of our friends have never been to school or daycare and are really shy when it is time to speak. They are so confident now, they are always anxious when it's their turn to tell a story. This is huge because they have been in front of tablets, computers and tv screens in the past due to covid. Our friend Ivy enjoys the book the most, she has a great imagination and the books push her mind to even more great ideas.”
