  • Pages for Progress: Brighter Futures One Book at a Time

    Funded Oct 3, 2024

I work in a low-income community and I unfortunately many of the novels in our textbook room are outdated. Thanks to your and your generous donations I have been able to introduce my students to more contemporary novels and prove to them that reading can be so much fun with the right book!

In my classroom I provide students with 15-20 minutes of reading at the beginning of every period. It has come to a point where many of my students are reading on their own time and even completing the novels much faster than I ever anticipated! It has been so exciting to see their spark for reading be reignited.

My sophomore class have relatively low reading levels and are reluctant readers. We are reading one of the novels together and they even get upset that we don't keep reading more. They have become fully invested in the stories and are even requesting other novels by the same author. Thanks to you and your donations, I can't thank you enough.”

    With gratitude,

  • Open Books, Open Minds: Fill Our Shelves with New Stories

    Funded Sep 19, 2024

Your book contributions to our classroom have been wonderful. Many of my students are reluctant readers but giving them their own book that is engaging and gives them the power to engage with it has really helped them thrive.

We have been using the books as supplemental novels to our units on creative writing, the hero's journey, Mexican-American literature and outsiders and outcasts. I provide the students with 15-20 minutes of reading at the start of every period. And due to your contributions of these amazing books they have been reading that and also, on their own! It's come to a point where I have to make recommendations on something else they may enjoy.

One of my freshman who said he was not much of a reader has already breezed through 5 books which he claims he had never done before. Thank you so much for sparking a newfound love of reading”

I just want to say I am beyond grateful for your generous donations. It has meant the world to my students and I and we are utilizing everything that has been donated.

The students are LOVING the flexible seating and using the post its for daily quick writes and annotations. They have been using the large poster paper for group work and formal assessments and we can't wait to dive into "They Both Die at the End" during our Romeo and Juliet unit!

Again, thank you so much. You are appreciated and thank you for appreciating the teaching profession! 🤍”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rojas
