Speaking and Listening in English for Newcomer English Learners!
Funded Oct 11, 2024I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for your generous donation towards a class set of headsets with microphones for my English as a Second Language beginner level high school students. These headsets are already making a significant difference in their learning, and I wanted to share some specific ways they are helping:
Improved Speaking and Listening Skills: The headsets allow students to practice their pronunciation and speaking fluency in a private and focused environment. They can record themselves and listen back to identify areas for improvement.
Increased Engagement and Participation: The novelty of the technology itself has sparked excitement! Students are more eager to participate in speaking activities when they can use the headsets. They are more likely to participate in speaking activities if they do not have to do it right in front of their classmates and these headphones give them a feeling of privacy.
Personalized Learning: The headsets allow for differentiated instruction. Students can work at their own pace and focus on specific areas they need to improve. This is especially helpful for students who may be shy or hesitant to speak up in class. They give me more options for assignments for my students.
I've seen some amazing progress with certain students:
One of my students was very self-conscious about his English pronunciation initially, in fact he swore to me that he did NOT want to learn how to speak better in English, but the headsets have allowed him to practice pronunciation privately and build confidence. He is now submitting Speaking assignments where he quite clearly is trying to show me what he has learned!
Another student was struggling with listening comprehension, but the headsets have helped her focus on spoken English and block out distractions. Her scores on listening quizzes have improved.
Thank you again for your incredible support. These headsets are invaluable tools that are helping my students develop the crucial English language skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Delgado
