Funded Jul 14, 2022At the start of the school year, my students only found one skin color in their crayon box. It was not representative of myself or most of my students. I instantly introduced our People Color Crayons and they were thrilled to see that in that box of crayons we were all represented. They love using the crayons on their illustrations daily. We have been able to read the books to support that although we may all look different we are each special and equal as humans.
The students love the options of different colors of construction paper for crafts. We have been working on our ELA unit which covers the human body. Students are able to pick the color they want to make their bodies. Some students choose to make it representative of themselves and others choose to make it representative of a storybook character, family member, or friend who looks different.
My students and I are grateful for your generous gift. It has allowed our classroom environment to be welcoming, and inclusive, and promote diversity among the students. I love seeing the smile on my student's faces when they can see themselves in the books we read or in their work. It helps validate them and make sure they are seen.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Gonzalez
