  • Whiteboard Space for Math Literacy!

    Funded Sep 18, 2024

Having more whiteboard space has allowed my students to express their thinking on vertical non-permanent space which overall reduces the anxiety they have around a difficult complicated subject such as Pre-Algebra. They huddle together in groups of 3 or 4, start discussing the problem or task on hand, draw shapes or diagrams to make sense of it, create a table of values, or a graph or anything else that could help them dissect the complicated Math task to more manageable bite-size pieced they can understand. I am able to walk around my classroom to monitor their learning and provide support or hints when needed. There is no more sitting and blending in for any student. I love it and they start warming up to this new way of having to think and put their thinking on display.

I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart to value education and make donations to benefit the future generation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Simonian

  • Dice & Playing Cards: Yay To Learn Probability!

    Funded May 6, 2024

We used the material you generously provided to learn about probability and statistics. Students used the dice to play a dice game at first to get familiar with "dice rules" in class. Then, they roll the dice to get a list of random numbers so they can create a dot plot and learn about mean, median, mode, and range. They found minimum, maximum, quartile 1, 2, and 3 to create a boxplot of the data. Later on, we learned to interpret our boxplot to make sense of the data. Next, they went to their friends, family members, teachers, and relatives to survey them to collect real world meaningful data, use them to create dot plots, boxplots, histograms, bar graphs, pie charts, etc. and interpret the data in their project in the context of the real life scenario.

Without your generous donation we would not have been able to carry on this abstract unit in Math. I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to you for supporting Math education and we hope that you continue doing so in the future.”

  • Learn About Climate and Environment Using Statistics

    Funded May 6, 2024

We used the material provided by your generous donation to learn about functions and patterns in Algebra. My students used the hands-on snap cubes to find patterns in linear functions and to make sense of complicated and abstract concepts in linear functions. They were able to see what slope means, what y-intercept means, and what the graph of a linear function looks like by setting it up themselves, not just because the textbook tells them to do so.

We are planning to use the material you helped us get to do a statistics project as well and it will be so much more meaningful and tangible with hands on material.

I would like to extend my sincere appreciation and gratitude in supporting education in schools with many low income students. We are all grateful for your donation and we hope you continue giving to teachers in the future.

    Regards,”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Simonian

  • Foldable Study Guides in Color!

    Funded Sep 11, 2023

Thank you so much for giving to my project. With your generous donations I am able to make colorful copies of study guide and "foldables" that students use to remember crucial formulas and procedures for solving complicated and multi-step math problems. We color code our information based on the units and my students are able to easily locate what they need using colors.

My students and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts to consider giving to educational causes and for bringing joy to an abstract concept such as Algebra.”

  • Snap Cubes To Learn Algebra!

    Funded Oct 9, 2023

Thank you so much for giving to my project. With your generous donations I was able to add to my math class manipulative collection. I will use the snap cubes to help my 8th grade Algebra students understand the abstract concept of "functions" in Algebra. They no longer have to just memorize rules and procedures. Math will come alive using more and more manipulative and hands-on objects that they can discover rules and procedures rather than being told about them and having to memorize them and using them like a robot would.

My students and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts to consider giving to educational causes and for bringing joy to an abstract concept such as Algebra.”

  • Environmentally Sustainable Structures Using Snap Cubes!

    Funded Jun 14, 2023

My students are eager to learn 8th graders from low-income families of marginalized groups. We are so grateful for your support which means a lot in our journey to learn Math and become proficient in grade-level standards.

We plan on using the snap cubes that you so kindly funded through the project to learn about functions in Algebra. Such a fancy and abstract concept comes to life with snap cube manipulative resources and all of a sudden students eyes light up, they get excited about learning Math, and they want to try another problem, often asking for a more difficult one, a challenging one!

My next steps would be to add more snap cubes through projects like this in this amazing community of donors, so I can provide each group of students with sufficient manipulative resources to play around, explore complicated Algebra concepts, and develop a lifelong love for Math.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Simonian

  • Laminated Math Posters Bring New Life to Class!

    Funded Jan 3, 2023

I have used the laminating pouches provided by your generous donation to create material for my students to practice on without the need for paper and pencil. The math problems now are laminated and ready to go for students to grab a dry erase marker and work on it. They can simply erase their work after they are done and the same laminated problem can be used by another student. We have eliminated the need for printing and making copies and students are eager to use these laminated practice material. I am working on creating review practice material for each and every unit and organize them in file folders for easy access for students. I include an answer key (or post the answer on the sheet or on the back) so students can self check and carry their learning forward while I work with small group of students who need more help and support. It feels like the class is running on auto-pilot when we use these laminated practice material. Students who need one on one help are able to concentrate and work with me in a small group while the rest of the class continues practicing the skills we have learned. Thank you so much for your generosity!”

  • Calming Zen Area to Boost Mental Health!

    Funded Jan 3, 2023

My students are thrilled to use the coloring pages and comfy zen area generously provided by your donations to relax and enjoy a little bit of time hanging out and enjoying each other's company. They come at lunch or after school to hang out, listen to music, color pages, work on their homework, help each other on their school assignments, eat snacks, play card games, and simply unwind and relax.

Thank you for your generosity! It has made the life of many students from a low-income deserving community more enjoyable! I hope that you continue making donations in this great platform so more teachers and students can benefit from your generosity!”

  • Engaging Math Lessons Using an iPad!

    Funded May 4, 2022

My students are using the newly donated iPad and the Apple pen in our Math class on a daily basis to solve algebraic equations, calculate percentages and proportions, draw and measure geometric figures, and collect data to learn about Statistics and its applications in using Math in real life.

My students get particularly excited that they can use the iPad anywhere in the room while writing on it and explaining a mathematical practice and their peers can see their work live on the screen using our projector.

I have come to see students who are naturally reserved & shy due to language barriers or those who struggle in Math due to learning disabilities really embrace the new technology to advance learning. Some of my English learner students use the iPad to explain the process to their peers in their native language, all while their work in being presented on the screen & other students might carry on their own discussions.”
