Want to Know More? Grab a Book and Find Out
Funded Oct 3, 2024Thank you so much for supporting our classroom. My class has 4th and 5th grade gifted students who are hungry to learn as much as they can. I can only teach them so much, and they can find information on the internet but they're never sure if what they're reading online is accurate.
When they saw the boxes of books being delivered, they begged me to give them time to read instead of going straight into our lessons. I let them pick books that interested them, and gave them time to just read. Some kids were reading biographies about people in fields they want to study. Some students were reading about animals, dinosaurs, or other creatures. Others were reading about history and inventions. The students kept coming up to me to inform me about something they read that was intriguing.
Now, when they finish their work early, they tend to head to the back of the room, grab a book, and read on their own. Thank you so much for giving my kids access to new information.”

Funded May 7, 2024Now that the school year has started, my students are loving having these scholastics magazines in addition to our regular curriculum. StoryWorks has been so much fun because it contains a variety of genres for them to read. I've seen my kids read and act out a play of Pinocchio together on their own. They enjoyed a comic strip about focusing on personal growth rather than comparing yourself with others. They took the time to read the different articles and stories. Then, they would talk with each other about their thoughts on what they read.
When they saw the SuperStem magazine, they were very eager to see which animal was considered the deadliest in the world! I think this magazine really caught their interest! They were learning about making ice cream, Europa (one of Jupiter's moons), beach erosion, and breakdancing. I think adding this to their typical curriculum was such a wonderful change of pace compared to what they are used to by 4th and 5th grade.
It's with donors like you that we teachers are able to provide additional resources like this. Thank you for all your help. It's great to see them excited to read during their free time and actually want to learn on their own through a magazine. Thank you for helping my kids enjoy school even more.”

Funded Mar 26, 2024This project has been one of the most successful since starting DonorsChoose. Once we received our packages, the kids were screaming with excitement! Luckily, I bought an air pump before everything got to my classroom. The kids would help me before school to inflate a couple of different seats. Once everything was inflated, it was time to distribute the seats.
Every morning, I go down my attendance list and pick the next student to start picking their flexible seating. First, the student at the top of the attendance picks and the rest of the students continue after them. The next day, the second person on the attendance lists picks first and the people after them pick afterwards, and so on. The students have had a lot of fun trying new ways to sit at their desk or around the classroom. I've noticed a change in some of the classroom behaviors because of these seats. Kids who are usually frigidity and walking around all the time, can be found by their seats bouncing or rocking on their flexible seat.
These seats allow the kids to move their body, but keep their minds focused on the task at hand. Thank you so much for your contribution to our class. The children and I are very grateful that you took a chance on a small class in Miami.”

Starting the Year on a Level Playing Field
Funded Jul 15, 2023Thank you for your donation! Words cannot express how much these supplies are appreciated. This year, my two classes combined actually ended up being more than 50 students. So some students, whose parents purchased their own supplies, didn't mind offering some of the donated supplies to the new students so they have what they need for school. The pencils, erasers, highlighters, and pencil pouches are definitely used on a daily basis. Things like the folders were given two per child. One for their homework folder and the second for their data folders. The rulers are being saved for when they start measuring in math class later in the year. Colors and scissors are used periodically when needed.
The students were happy to see the supplies but I think their parents were even happier. Our school has had an influx of new students enrolling; mostly students new to the country. So when we get those students, the parents are so excited to hear that they don't need to buy as many supplies as they had thought. Thank you all so much for helping bring some peace of mind to these children and their families.”

Funded May 11, 2023At the beginning of the school year, a lot of my students did not like to read because they were struggling readers and/or they never had books read to them in a way that opens up a discussion. In my class, I like to show them how the subjects discussed in our books, whether they're fiction or nonfiction, can apply to their lives as well. We work on empathizing with characters and trying to understand their point-of-view. The more they connect with stories, the more they connect with reading. By the end of the year, students were asking to borrow books from my classroom library because they wanted to read on their own. Since they started showing so much enjoyment with reading, I wanted to create this project to help encourage that during summer.
Not all my students have parents who reinforce their learning at home, so I knew the best way to help them after school ended would be to give them books myself. Since some students were still struggling to read at grade level, I picked stories at different reading levels; some fiction and some nonfiction. I also purchased, on my own, multiplication flashcards for each student so they could practice before getting to third grade. When the students received their gift bags, each student received three different book, a box of multiplication flashcards, and a water bottle. They could not believe it! Some students immediately picked a book to read, and some paired up to test each other on multiplication facts. The boys were excited to see that they got a Minecraft book, and some were eager to start their book.
I really appreciate all your help, I would love to give my students the world, but people like you help teachers like me give them as much as we can to help them love learning. Thank you for being part of our village.”

Robotics Club Can Succeed With a Little Help From You!
Funded Nov 30, 2022My students and I cannot thank you enough for helping us by funding our project! The students cheered so loudly when I told them we were getting the iPad. Once we received it, they were very eager to try coding on it. They had practiced coding on their laptops beforehand, so it was a pretty quick adjustment to using the iPad.
Not only does the iPad connect and communicate better with our robot, but it also allows for the children to move around more freely. Having to code on a laptop and move around and adjust the robot is doable, but not at a quick enough pace. The iPad allows for the kids to more around with more agility when trying to restart their robot and correct codes. This will give us a better chance, when we go to competition, to fix problems quickly so we can maximize our points.
My older students have been working with the younger students to help show them ways to fix their problems in their coding. The iPad makes it easier to move the codes around and adjust when needed. Overall, this iPad really has made our meetings run more smoothly. Thank you all again so much for helping our club to get what they need.”
