Sensory Tools for Classroom Success!
Funded Mar 2, 2023I wanted you to know how I am using the new resources in my classroom and the impact it has had. I requested items to address social and emotional well being, as that is such an important piece of educating young children in today's society. The first item I gave them was the "calming strips". They have them in their desks and can use them any time they feel stressed or just fidgety. A few days later I was in a special education meeting for one of my students, and the parents said they were putting him to bed and he stated that "he needed his calming strip". I was touched that a seeming small strategy had such a big impact!
My students have loved the "Little Spot" activity book. The coloring pages and calming strategies inside the book have been invaluable. My students look forward to reading about our "spots" of emotions. One activity from the book is called "I Am In Control". It is a video controller with strategies to count down to "calm". It's amazing! The kids keep it at their desks and have even asked for extra ones to take home! Once again, I realize these strategies are not only helping them function in the classroom, but are truly learning life strategies.
The weighted lap pad has been a big hit as well. I have students that have difficulty regulating themselves, but this is calming and soothing and helps them focus in class. The learners love sharing this helpful too.
Thank you again for the support you have given us. It gives me such pleasure to know that I am making an impact in their lives, and your support has been invaluable in that. Our entire classroom thanks you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. McGuire
