Diverse Graphic Novels

Help me give my students graphic novels that explore inequality, helping them engage with important social issues through powerful storytelling and visuals. Many struggle to access diverse, thought-provoking books.

**Subject: Heartfelt Thanks for Supporting Our Students**

    Good Evening!

I hope this message finds you well. We finished out the year and students loved the two novel sets. On behalf of my students and myself, I want to extend our deepest gratitude for your generous contribution of the two novels. Your support has made a profound impact on our classroom and the lives of the young learners we serve.

For many of our students, these novels represent more than just academic material; they are a bridge to exploring new perspectives, expanding their vocabulary, and developing critical thinking skills. Seeing students who once struggled with reading now eagerly discussing characters, themes, and plotlines is a testament to the power of literature—and to the impact of your generosity.

They now have the tools to unlock their potential in ways they hadn't imagined before. Once again, thank you for your kindness and belief in the power of education.”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. Carmickle

  • Diverse Books!

    Funded Jun 24, 2022

My students and myself send you our most enthusiastic gratitude! The seventh graders have truly enjoyed having access to the classroom library – we do not have a school library – and check out books on a weekly basis. It is truly wonderful to see students excited to pick up the next book and enter its world.

Before the donations, we had no access to books. And the class sets that were available did not represent my students. I mainly teach Hispanic and African American kids, and by making this donation you enabled them to see themselves represented on the page which is exciting for them.

Some of the favorite books have been graphic novels like American Born Chinese and Persepolis. Novels like The 57 Bus and Two Boys Kissing have given students the chance to realize that if they are not "straight" or "cis" they still matter, and their stories are still worth being told. Again, we thank you so much for the donation and enabling us to begin our classroom library!”

    With gratitude,

    Dr. Carmickle
