Calming Area

My calming area is amazing. It has gained some attention at my school. Other teachers have asked me to allow their students to come in order to reap the benefits of spending time there. Even my administrators have brought students by in need of some tranquility and attitude adjusting.
My students were in awe of it and wanted to explore it when I first set it up. So I needed a system in place for the area to be used. I allow for rotations to the area and included some high interest books for them to enjoy while there too. It has been perfect.
I want to add more materials and switch some out to maintain student interest. My kids absolutely love it! I can't thank you enough.”

My school is incredibly diverse. My class, in particular, enjoys being comprised of many cultures although usually of a lower socioeconomic level, many of whom live in gang-infested neighborhoods. I have students with learning disabilities and many who are visual learners, rather than just auditory. So they absolutely need visual guidance and experience to truly learn and succeed. They also need to be motivated to use their verbal skills in explaining their learning.
