Catching Inspiration for Outdoor Sports
Funded Mar 20, 2022The gloves were such a blessing and a big encouragement to the students. They were so surprised and loved unwrapping the gloves from the plastic like unwrapping a Christmas present. We were able to purchase enough left and especially right-handed gloves for our classes. The new gloves were also a hit with my students because unlike our previous set, they could now adjust the wrist strap to its comfortable tightness. This helps with keeping the glove on their hands when they would raise them up or drop them down for a ground ball. We used the gloves for the basics of catching and having enough gloves was a joy because students were not waiting around for their turn. Everyone was able to maximize the activity time.
One of the coolest conversations we had while opening up the gloves from their plastics, was that students were excited to get their own gloves and play this sport on their own. They were interested in trying out for this sport in the spring as well. As a former Softball coach, this was wonderful to hear. The new equipment instantly brought an interest to try-out for the sport. The newness gave them a sense of safety, which is one of the reasons they felt this way.
Currently, we touched the basics of softball but we will readdress these fundamentals in the spring. We will build upon the basics with tournaments in class. Lastly, I would like to extend my appreciation for your generous gift because not only will this year's students benefit from your generosity but many more classes to come. We are grateful for the investment into our student's enjoyment of sports and learning new activities. More than ever, creating an interest for a young person to choose outdoors activities while remaining active is a gift I do not take lightly. Thank you again.”
With gratitude,
Ms. LUJAN
