After School Matters Class of 2022
Funded Mar 20, 2022Thank you so much for your generosity in providing materials for my After School Matters Program. I have seen an improvement in attendance, performance, and confidence for the students. As a result of the grant, my program has grown and the students who attend regularly will graduate on time.
I believe that students need a safe place with a caring adult in order to thrive. One student shared with me that no other adult has supported her academics like I do. Honestly, letting the students work in a safe environment with a yummy snack (supplied by your grant) and earning fidget toys when completing credit recovery classes (supplied by your grant), means the world to the students. The supplies help create a strong rapport among students and me. Further, the students also appreciate the comfortable purple chairs. They no longer sit on stained and unmatching chairs.
The students' face it up when they saw the new supplies and materials from the grant, which one can see from the attached pictures. The students are touched that outside organizations care about them and their success. Although my students range from 14 to 18 years old, they love the fidget toys and smelly pencils, just as elementary aged students do:).
The next steps for my students in the After School Matters Program is to continue developing relationships, building confidence, and making sure that the students have plans for after high school. I have learned as much from the students, as they have learned from me.
Again, thank you so much for your generosity. This is my 20th year in education, and it's the first grant that I ever applied for. In the future, I will be sure to take advantage of grants for my students because I now see the positive impact of them. The students and I appreciate you.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Grumbling
