What Do You Say? Let's Get Creative With Clay!

Funded Mar 19, 2022

Thank you so very much for your generous donation to my Art room. I teach Art for students in grades PreK-Fourth. Our school has approximately 440 students. We are a low income area and your donation greatly increased my students' spirits.

We used the donated materials to create small creatures, figurines and animals out of clay. Students were very excited when I introduced the project and learned that they were going to be able to use clay and clay tools to create a personal project. They took great pride and ownership in their projects. Some of my students had never even played with play dough. We practiced playing and manipulating the clay to get used to the feel and see what we could do with it. After some exploring time, students began creating their projects. Some made the letters of their name, animals or favorite foods. I had one boy make a Great White shark because he wants to be a Marine Biologist when he grows up, while another girl made a vase that she told me was "historical".

As excited as students were to learn about our clay projects, they were even more excited to learn that they would be able to take their projects home with them. I was told by many that they couldn't wait to show a parent or sibling. I even had a few who were going to save their project as a gift for a loved one.

We just started a new school year and students are eager to learn and create new things this year. We are beginning with color wheel turtles and cool wheel guitars. My students are excited to see what will come next!”

With gratitude,

Mrs. Trujillo
