Folders for Fantastic Friends
Funded Feb 5, 2025On behalf of our sixth-grade students, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your generous support in funding the folders that will help keep our students organized. Your contribution is making a meaningful difference in their academic success and will enable them to stay on track with their learning. Thanks to you, these students now have the tools they need to feel more confident and prepared as they continue their educational journey this school year.”

Headphones for Hardworking Humans
Funded Oct 31, 2024Thank you so much for your generous donation to help purchase headsets for our classroom. Your support will make a meaningful difference for our diverse learners, providing them with the tools they need to succeed and improve their test scores and science literacy.
Since we have been able to receive your items, we have taken our Unit 3 test on Energy. ALL of the Science Honors 6 students tested proficient and there were many gains in improvement with Unified Science 6 classes. We are currently remediating with support through videos that explain concepts that were missed, and all our diverse learners (ELLs, students with 504s and IEPs) have access to read allowed accommodations!
Not only did we receive headsets, but we had enough money in the budget to get 9V batteries. This allowed us to make circuit holiday cards with our loved ones! the 9V batteries were used to complete the circuit, which lit up a light on the front of the cards. Students used their knowledge of energy transformations to complete this project, thanks to you!
We're grateful for your commitment to education and the impact you're making on our students' futures.”

A Breath of Fresh Air
Funded Apr 9, 2023Thank you SO much for fully funding my project!!!! The presence of an air purifier has improved the air quality of our classroom dramatically. As described in my project essay, the current air system in our building is controlled by central office and may be decades old. I cannot change the temperature or amount of air flow, but with the air purifier, we are able to control the wind speed and move it around the room where we want. The new air purifier has truly made a difference not only for myself but for all students who come into my room.
Thank you for your generosity and care for the students here at Norview Middle School. We have aptly named our new air purifier buddy "Ozone" to symbolize the way the ozone layer in the stratosphere protects us (from harmful solar radiation).”

Hands on Learning With Watersheds
Funded Jan 18, 2023Thank you so much for your generosity in providing these watershed model kits! We have been learning about parts of a watershed and how humans impact the health of the Chesapeake Bay due to pollution. The kids were able to use the models to see how water moves from higher elevations to areas of lower ground, and eventually larger bodies of water. The use of hands on models allowed students to identify parts of a watershed like the divides, tributaries, and river mouths.
We later started a "Save the Bay" campaign to encourage others to practice green initiatives in their daily lives. This campaign allowed students to think outside of the box of just learning science content, but making real world connections. Our learning was able to be taken further with the use of these models!
Thank you for your kindness and willingness to support our education!!”

Supplies for Science Class!
Funded Jan 11, 2023I am so humbled to know so many thoughtful and generous people! When I told my students that my project was fully funded ONLY by my friends and family, they gladly told me that I had "W" friends, a sign middle schooler's sign of approval. As a relatively new teacher, it's been a tricky building up the supplies needed to run the classroom, especially when many students cannot afford to buy their own themselves!
My students were previously sharing one set of supplies per desk group. Now each student is able to have their own set of colored pencils in the pencil boxes you provided along with scissors and glue sticks for STEAM activities!! My students also have the much needed Earth models to help learning about the Sun-Earth-Moon system better visually.
I thank you so much for your support of my little classroom, but also for touching the lives of 125 sixth graders here in Norfolk, VA! We love you guys!!!”

Ms. Bautista
