Edutainment: Learning Through Play and Discovery
Funded Nov 28, 2023My scholars are truly enjoying the manipulative(s) your donations provided. They were so excited to see the packages arrive. They wanted to begin using the items as soon as I unpacked them. It's amazing to see them work together to complete a puzzle. Most of my scholars are nonverbal, but they are learning new ways to communicate with others. Parents are noticing the increase in their attention span, ability to sit longer as they engage in an activity, and their knowledge of the alphabet and ability to count to ten. Not only that, my scholars are learning the primary colors and 2D shapes. As an educator the joy of seeing scholars learn from their productive struggles is inspiring. Their faces light up as the smile forms, and they begin clapping for their success is priceless. I don't allow them to give up. We're truly strengthening their educational foundation.”

Funded Sep 7, 2022My scholars watched me as I opened our box. As each item came out, they came closer wanting to explore and use the items right away. However, they had to wait until the next day for our independent learning/creative play. They were so lively and social using the ABC bubbles and magnetic shapes. Even my nonverbal students were engaged and working together building with the water building blocks. They were even saying the color of the fish they wanted to catch! That was amazing to hear because typically my students don't speak, and surely they didn't work together. The first day of them using our donations has been the best day of my academic year so far just to hear and see them working together. Even my two female students played with the shape carrier. They called it their shape house. Needless to say, we're going to get a lot of learning done as we play.”

Funded Aug 20, 2022My students are using the manipulatives daily to learn their alphabets, count numbers, identify shapes, and colors. Also, they are writing on the chalkboard as well. I think my students were more surprised about the size of the boxes at first, but when I opened them and they saw things were for them, they sat down at various areas reaching for objects to use right then as I opened them. My next steps are to continuously repeat these skills as I spiral in new objects. My students are special needs and require a lot of practice time with manipulatives to deepen their understanding. We will continue to use these items daily as a building block or form of review. As our knowledge deepens and expand, we'll add more manipulatives to help us to continue to explore.”

Funded Mar 31, 2022Thank you again for blessing my students and I. We are using these snacks for extended day tutoring. My struggling students have an opportunity to receive additional support three days a week. These snacks are used to provide them energy and as an incentive to encourage them to stay after school. As you can see from the pictures, we study as we snack. I think the snacks caused my students to open up more. Just this last Friday evening, their discussions were rich as they justified their answers. Their confidence and courage to speak academically was priceless to witness. We have four weeks until our state assessments, and I truly believe these snacks will assist my students to reach their goals as it's difficult to learn hungry.”
