These materials will help me plan, organize, and facilitate high-quality, engaging English lessons. I will use the utility cart and rolling storage cart in order to organize the materials that my students need to be successful, such as markers, scissors, pencils, paper, glue sticks, and their journals. In the high school classroom, I have found that it is incredibly (and surprisingly) beneficial to plan high-engagement, hands-on activities very similar in style (although more rigorous) to the English Language Arts lessons one might see in a middle school classroom. You might be surprised to see how excited some of my students get when we get to do an activity involving cutting, gluing, and using colors!
I work in a critical-needs school, and I am committed to showing my high school students the world of opportunity that awaits them after high school graduation. In order to prepare my students for the future, we do ACT practice activities three times a week so that they can become familiar with the test and increase their scores, thereby increasing their post-high school opportunities. The white boards will be a great resource for each student to have during ACT practice time. Other basic materials, such as paper and pencils are necessities on days when students must write in their journals and complete paper assignments.
Last but not least, snacks are also important for a well-functioning classroom. Many students come to me before or after class, asking for a snack because they have not had anything to eat that day. Additionally, snacks like sour gummy worms and takis are hot commodities as classroom prizes, and the opportunity to receive such snacks motivates students to stay engaged.
