Indoor Recess Makeover
Funded Nov 28, 2022With cold weather here, we have spent many days having recess indoors. My kids used to groan when we stayed inside. Now, they get excited!
I introduced the games when they first came in. My kids couldn't contain their excitement. They were disappointed it was still nice outside and they had to go out for recess. They actually wanted to stay in. I gave them an extra recess later that week and let them play the games instead of having a science lesson. They loved it!
They have so many fun games to choose from. Sometimes, they have a hard time deciding what to play because they want to play with everything.
I have kids playing together who don't normally play together. Not only are they have a great time, they are making new friends and having new experiences.
None of this would have been possible without your generosity. I can't thank you enough for this wonderful gift for my k”

They're Alive!
Funded Feb 17, 2022Thank you so much for your generosity! We are just starting our ecosystem unit and my kids are already excited.
We have just planted our seeds in the root tank and my kids are anxiously waiting for signs of growth. They just know the seeds are going to start sprouting any day now.
We are also just getting started with our mini island ecosystem kit. We have voted for they type of organism we are going to get and its name.
Not only is this teaching my kids about ecosystems, it is going to help some of them who struggle with responsibility.
I can't tell you how much your gift has meant to me and my kids. You are very much appreciated!”

Multiplying Our Success
Funded Jul 1, 2022We are only a week into our fraction unit and your generosity has already been so helpful and much appreciated!
After a week of learning fractions, I surprised my kids with a game day. When I brought the games out, they were so excited. They couldn't believe how fun they were having while learning.
The games have been beneficial to helping my kids understand how to add and simplify fractions, as well as, how to change fractions to have a common denominator.
They are engaged, excited, and talking all about fractions. They have also been helping others who are struggling to understand. It truly has been a fun learning experience.
Thank you again for your donation. It has made fractions fun for my kids!”

Funded Apr 7, 2022Thank you so much for your donation! My room has been transformed into a scene from space.
When my kids walked into my room at open house, all they could talk about were the planets hanging from the ceiling. Parents were even excited about them.
My kids have enjoyed having the planets so much. They get excited when I talk about one of them and they know exactly which one I am talking about. They all now have their favorite and love to learn more about it.
Our next step will be to make a scale model of the solar system to hang in the hallway. We will start with the sun being 75 ft in diameter. With having a solar system hanging in our room, my kids are as excited about outer space as I am.
Thank you for your generosity and helping get my kids excited about space.”

Funded Jun 16, 2022Thank you so much for your donation. We had so much fun making shrinky dink cells.
During our unit of cells, my kids learned the difference between plant and animal cells. They also were able to describe five organelles and their functions. We watched videos and were able to look at cells with microscopes.
Before we shrank the cells, we blew them up. In groups, they researched an organelle and had to create a much bigger version of it. Our plant cell ended up being 6 ft in diameter and our animal cell was about 4 ft in diameter.
When we were finished with them, I told my kids were were going to shrink cells. They were confused at first because they know we can't see cells. This is when I introduced the shrinky dinks. Everyone was able to create their own cell with organelles with the shrinky dink paper. I brought in a small toaster oven and let the kids watch as their 6 in cell shrank to a 2 inch cell. The look on their face was priceless!
Thank you again for helping me give my kids this memorable opportunity.”

Funded Feb 16, 2022Thank you so much for your donation. It has already helped my kids be more successful in the world of fractions. A couple of times a week, before we start class, they have the opportunity to practice using fractions with the dominos or the dice.
My kids are excited when they come to class and see either the dominos or the dice on their tables. They have really been able to make a connection with the fractions on the dominoes. The visual aid has made it more comprehensible to them. They are now able to understand exactly what I am talking about when I say 3/4 or 1/3. They can see the picture from the dominoes in their head and automatically know what they need to add to it to make 1.
We have been able to use the dice in so many different ways. My kids are paired up and will each roll a die. They have to work together to figure out which fraction is the greater one and which is the lesser one. We have also used them for adding and subtracting. One of their favorite things to do is to work with their table groups and have races with the other tables putting four dice in order from least to greatest. These kids are so competitive. Not only do they want to be first but they work really hard to be correct also.
Thanks to your generosity, I will be able to keep incorporating games like these and more to help me kids be successful with fractions.”
