My students are high achieving and motivated individuals who signed up for Yearbook and Newspaper to learn more about photography and copywriting. I can teach them how to be fabulous journalists and the concepts for how to take great photos, but without the proper tools, their learning is stifled. Photos can tell a story without saying a word, and by teaching our students how to properly create photos with vivid colors or depths of field, they can learn job-related skills that can last a lifetime. I know that growing up I always wanted to work for National Geographic, but I did not have the skills or tools necessary to learn. I want to be able to provide my students with not only the know-how, but also the ability to practice and fine-tune their abilities. These lessons and skills translate not only when they leave middle school, but also onto high school and beyond. Maybe it is just a dream, but you could help to inspire the next Ansel Adams or Annie Leibovitz.
